Medieval towns were always the center of life. Trade and commerce took place here not only among the residents, but people would come from faraway places to obtain goods, merchandise and service. Meetings were held in the squares, administration and law was enforced from within and most towns near castles flourished. It was not uncommon for Medieval towns to be surrounded by great walls and defenses to ward off seiges and attacks.
