(Mustapha and Casib are swordfighting; Sinbad and Doubar are at the tiller)
Sinbad: Look at them.
Doubar: (chuckles) The young prince is growing up.
Sinbad: I never thought I’d see the day.
Dim-Dim: That vizier Admir still gives me the willies.
Sinbad: Oh, he’s always sulking, just because no one pays any attention to him.
Doubar: He doesn’t eat with us, he doesn’t sleep with us. He just stays by himself.
Sinbad: Count your blessings.
(Doubar chuckles, Sinbad smiles)
(Dim-Dim is forming a fire ball, Sinbad and Doubar watch)
Doubar: She’s a pretty one, that one, huh?
Sinbad: I suppose (he gulps). If you like the insulting type.
(Doubar laughs)
Dim-Dim: Now remember. You have to create the magic without you (he’s still holding the fireball; Maeve is watching him). Go slowly at first. If you exert yourself, you will exhaust your power quickly. And you will gradually learn to create more and more magic (he moves his free hand over the fireball, then throws it out to sea, where it blows up in the air). Your turn, Maeve.
(Maeve tries it, but by mistake throws it backwards, and it hits the wood above Sinbad’s head; Doubar and Sinbad duck, then get up again)
Maeve: Sorry!
Sinbad: No harm done! (Maeve turns around, chuckling) We’re in trouble.
(It is now dark, Admir leaves cabin, he sees Firouz, who is working on his hanging glider, he walks up to him, as Rongar goes into his cabin; Rongar looks in Admir’s trunk and finds a real hand)
Admir: An impressive contraption.
Firouz: (looks up) Thank-you, sir. Um, we’ve yet to try it out, but I have high hopes…pardon the pun.
Admir: Sinbad relies heavily on your gadgetry, doesn’t he?
Firouz: Ah, yes, ah (gets up). We’ve gotten through quite a few interesting times together (goes back to work). Yeah.
Admir: I am quite a bit of a tinkerer myself.
Firouz: (looks up) Really. I would never have guessed that (goes back to work).
Admir: My skill is not nearly as involved as yours.
Firouz: Well… (gets up) well, it’s a hobby, really.
Admir: Nonetheless, I would be honoured if you took a look at a few of my toys.
Firouz: You brought them along?
Admir: Oh, yes. They’re down below…in my trunk.
Firouz: Certainly, sir (puts down tools). It would be a pleasure.
(Rongar brings up the trunk)
Admir: How dare you! Return my belongings immediately!
(Doubar and Sinbad are watching)
Sinbad: Now, what?
Doubar: Rongar stole laughing-boy’s luggage.
(They laugh; Rongar opens the trunk, and Firouz looks, and he shuts it, and turns to Admir)
Firouz: MONSTER!
(Admir laughs and reveals sharp, pointed teeth; he punches Firouz across the floor; Rongar helps him up; Mustapha goes at him with his sword; Admir grabs the sword and picks him up by the neck, and throws him as well; Rongar goes to help him up)
Sinbad: Take the helm! (they run to Admir) Keep your distance, men…and lady.
Admir: Good advice, Captain. I could kill you all where you stand.
(Casib joins them)
Casib: Admir?
Admir: I am called Eblus, boy. I am prince of the dark. I warn you, Captain, if you want you and your men to live, you turn this ship around, now.
Sinbad: Not until you explain yourself, demon.
Admir: I’m warning you!
Dim-Dim: (walks up to them) Be gone, demon of the underworld!
(Admir laughs and blows Dim-Dim to another dimension)
Maeve: (turns around) NO!
Sinbad: Master Dim-Dim!
(They turn around to face Admir)
Admir: He’s not dead, Sinbad. He’s just traveling a different path than you. He’ll travel that pathway forever, unless you turn this ship around, now. Turok only wants the prince. Give me the prince and I’ll let you and your men go.
Sinbad: You work for that sorcerer?
Admir: Do you really think Turok kidnapped the princess on a whim? It’s all part of their plan. I am sent to a kingdom in human form. I prey upon the young, the eager, the inexperienced. I flatter them. Make them feel important. Then I plant the seeds of destruction. I rob them of their power to dream. Soon they forget hope. Forget magic. They worship only themselves, and money after that.
Sinbad: Turok can simply waltz in and take over.
Admir: And I’m off to a new land, looking again for the young and foolish.
Casib: (walks ahead) Leave me, Sinbad (Mustapha holds him back). Save Dim-Dim.
Sinbad: No. I’ve given my word.
Admir: (laughs) Poor Captain. You gaze upon your own death and know it not. You see, Turok is interested in devouring the soul. Me, I enjoy flesh. I grow weary of this conversation. I grow hungry. And when hungry, I growl.
(He turns into a monster and swings tail around)
Sinbad: Keep away from its tail! It’s filled with poison!
(They all scatter; Doubar swings his sword at Admir; Admir pushes him away)
Sinbad: Careful men! Be brave! His tail!
(Sinbad swings his sword at Admir; Rongar throws dirks; Maeve forms a fireball, and Sinbad jumps at her, pushing her to the ground)
Sinbad: Maeve! Get down! And stay down!
Maeve: I’m not afraid of that creature!
Sinbad: Then you’re dumber than I thought.
(They both get up; Sinbad swings his sword at Admir; Mustapha swings sword, and is thrown across the ship with Admir’s tail; Rongar drags him out of the way)
Sinbad: Mustapha! (he takes Mustapha’s hand)
Mustapha: Say something about my mother.
Sinbad: She raised a brave son.
Mustapha: Burns…burns…burns…
(He disappears; Rongar yells; he is mad at Admir)
Sinbad: (takes a rope) Die a thousand deaths, you devil!
(Doubar also goes at Admir with a spear; Sinbad gets spear in Admir’s neck, and is still holding onto it; he is thrown down, Doubar helps him up; Admir dies; Sinbad walks over to Doubar and Casib; Maeve watches him go)
Casib: Master Dim-Dim. It’s all my fault.
Sinbad: Master Dim-Dim is alive somewhere, my prince. I love him as much as you. I swear that if I have to sail to lands no man has ever laid eyes upon, I will find him and bring him home.
(Casib leaves; Doubar and Sinbad see Rongar, who is sitting alone)
Doubar: And Mustapha?
Sinbad: Died a noble death.
(Doubar leaves)
Sinbad: (turns and sees minor crewmembers standing around) Everyone! Don’t just stand there! We have lost time to make up! We have an appointment to keep. With Turok.
(Maeve walks up to Sinbad)
Maeve: Well done.
(Sinbad leaves, and Maeve watches after him)
(Rumina and Turok are watching the crew through the water)
Rumina: A girl on the ship. I think I know her from somewhere.
Turok: The devil take her. Curse Sinbad. He has gone too far this time. Bring me the princess. (Rumina leaves) You think you can overpower me, you fool. The future belongs to me and my kind. How can you believe in good when evil blooms all around you? (Rumina turns with the princess; Rumina laughs, and Turok puts his hands on Adina’s shoulders) Come, my pretty. I have to get you ready for your betrothed. (he takes her, as Rumina goes back to the water)
(The Nomad approaches the Isle of Tears; Doubar, Maeve, Sinbad, Rongar, Firouz, and Casib are at the tiller)
Doubar: It’s as if hell itself had surfaced.
(Sinbad looks at him)
Firouz: I don’t like this, Sinbad. Those rocks could mean the end of us.
Maeve: ‘Tis a very tidy trap, isn’t it?
(Back inside skull rock, Rumina and Turok talk to the crew of the Nomad)
Turok: Welcome, Sinbad. It’s a shame you had to come this far, only to lose!
Casib: Adina!
Sinbad: We haven’t started to play the game yet, Turok!
Casib: Please! Let Adina go!
Turok: (laughs, and turns to Adina) Soon, my dear, you’ll meet your fate. (wraps a hand around her neck)
Rumina: There is a way out of this, Sinbad. (they can see an image of her in the sky) A way that will make everyone happy.
Sinbad: (cocks an eyebrow) I’m listening.
Rumina: We’ll spare the prince, and the life of your crew, if you agree to be my friend. My close, close friend.
(Maeve gives Sinbad a look, as Sinbad looks at Doubar)
Sinbad: And the princess?
Rumina: (laughs) She’s shark bait one way or the other.
Sinbad: (whispers) Doubar, take the helm. Firouz. (Firouz walks up to Sinbad) Catapult.
Firouz: Rongar.
(Rongar follows Firouz)
Sinbad: (turns around and whispers to Doubar) We’re going to have to think on our feet here. Follow my lead. (shouts) I gave my word to save her, Rumina. You know I can’t break that. (turns to Casib and Doubar) Get ready. I’m going to try to get in there quick enough, to get the princess out fast.
Casib: How?
Sinbad: (turns toward the island) Fly. (he leaves, and Firouz puts the hanging glider on his back)
Rumina: Think about it, Sinbad. I will be Queen of Baghdad and you will be my royal consort. There’s absolutely nothing we can’t do together. Nothing.
Sinbad: (he is sitting on the catapult) Very intriguing offer, Rumina. I had to don an outfit that befits our first meeting…in the flesh. (looks at Firouz) You sure this’ll work?
Firouz: Ah…in theory.
Sinbad: I was hoping for something a bit more reassuring. I may disappoint you, Rumina. I’m not the settling-down type.
(Maeve rolls her eyes)
Rumina: Believe me, Sinbad. Life with me will be anything but settled.
Turok: Enough of this nonsense! (he walks over to Rumina) He’s up to something. (he grabs Rumina by her arm) And frankly, you could do better than dawdle with a common sailor. No more talk! Hand over the prince, or prepare to die!
Sinbad: Not the subtlest fellow I ever met. (turns to Maeve) Tell Doubar to hold the tiller steady. If he can, turn the ship around slowly, after I leave. Hopefully, I will be enough of a distraction, so that Turok won’t notice… (Maeve doesn’t move) Well? Get going, woman!
(Maeve turns in a huff, and leaves)
Sinbad: (turns to Firouz) All right. Let’s try this thing out. (they clasp each other’s hands)
(Firouz pulls the lever of the catapult, and Sinbad is airborne)
Turok: What kind of foolishness?
(Firouz runs to Casib, Doubar, and Maeve, who are all at the tiller)
Doubar: It works!
Firouz: So far.
Turok: A very impressive suicide.
(Sinbad pulls the lever to open the wings)
Firouz: Yes!
Rumina: A cheap parlour trick. (she tries to zap him, but he dodges it)
(Dermott chirps)
Maeve: (smiling) Don’t be jealous.
Turok: Don’t waste your time on that sailor. Kill the girl!
(Rumina runs and grabs Adina)
(Sinbad pulls out his sword)
Turok: You are good at this game, sailor. But I am better!
Sinbad: This is for Dim-Dim…and Mustapha!
Rumina: Kill him now, Father! Before he gets any closer!
Turok: Don’t worry, my dear. I’ve been doing this sort of thing for years.
Sinbad: (enters, cutting off Turok’s head) Jump, Adina!
Rumina: Father!
Doubar: Time to get the hell out of here.
Maeve: How’s he going to land that thing?
Firouz: Um…I never really addressed that point.
Sinbad: Get ready! I’m going to drop you!
(He drops her, the wing rips, and he falls into the water)
Firouz: That works!
(Sinbad and Adina come up from underwater)
Casib: Adina, this way! Adina!
(Rongar lets down rope; everyone comes to help them out)
Firouz: That’s a good landing.
(Rongar helps Adina, then Sinbad onto the boat; Dermott then squawks)
Sinbad: Like you could have done any better.
Firouz: Success!
(Sinbad gives him a look, and leaves; he turns and looks at Maeve, they smile at each other; Rumina conjures a rock monster)
Sinbad: Doubar! Get us out of here! (he runs to the tiller)
Doubar: It’s like the sea is closing in on us.
Maeve: (runs up to them) No, it’s worse! Look at that! (points)
(They look, and see the rock monster)
Maeve: You’re the Captain what are you going to do?
Sinbad: Well, why don’t you send your bird out to distract it?
Maeve: Dermott is a hawk! He’ll not serve as your personal sitting duck!
Sinbad: Well, why don’t you cast a spell on it?
Maeve: I need a spell the size of a tidal wave to stop that thing!
Sinbad: Hey, you’re the magician.
Maeve: I’m a magician’s apprentice! I’m still learning!
Sinbad: (puts his hands on her shoulders) Just do it. (he turns her around to face the rock monster)
(Maeve forms a fireball, and throws it into the water, it doesn’t do anything)
Sinbad: That’s it?
Maeve: It takes a lot of energy!
(She tries it again, and this time it hits the rock monster in the chest, and causes a few pieces of rock to fall)
Sinbad: (looks up at Dermott) Dermott, trust me on this one.
(Dermott chirps; Sinbad spanks Maeve as she throws another one; Maeve curses him; the rock monster falls apart; the ship shakes; Sinbad falls against the tiller; Maeve lands on him; after a slight pause, she pulls away in disgust, and runs to the side)
Rumina: I curse you, Sinbad. I curse you.
Doubar: That thing is going to fall apart right on top of us! It’ll crush the boats to bits!
(Rumina cries about the death of her father)
Doubar: If I never said this before, it’s been an honour sailing with you. See you on the other side, little brother.
Sinbad: Not yet, big brother. Let’s get out of here.
(The rock monster falls into the ocean; Sinbad falls on the tiller; Maeve falls also, grabbing onto a rope; the rock monster is now dead)
Sinbad: (smiles) Steer for home, big brother.
Doubar: Aye, aye, Captain.
(Sinbad sits down beside Maeve and Dermott)
Sinbad: Why so sad? Turok and Rumina are both dead.
Maeve: No. The daughter is still alive.
Sinbad: How do you know?
Maeve: Look at Dermott.
(Sinbad looks)
Sinbad: He looks the same to me.
Maeve: (sadly) Exactly.
(Sinbad leaves, and walks up to Casib and Adina)
Casib: Captain Sinbad, I don’t know how I would ever thank you.
(They shake hands)
Sinbad: Rule long and wisely, my prince. That’s all the thanks I require. And you, my princess, have a difficult job ahead of you. Keeping this prince out of mischief.
(They smile; Sinbad leaves; Adina and Casib hug)
(Sinbad walks up to Doubar at the tiller)
Doubar: It’s all yours, little brother.
Sinbad: (takes the tiller from Doubar) Thank-you.
(Doubar walks away)
(Dermott flies to Sinbad and lands on the sail above him; he squawks)
Sinbad: Oh, be quiet, featherbrain! I know your mistress is unhappy. Maybe a long sea voyage will cheer you both up. The way I look at it, this world is growing a little too civilized for me. It’s growing up. Growing serious. Growing dull. But out there, who knows what worlds await? And out there is our good friend, Dim-Dim. I promise to find him, Dermott. Of course, I need a good crew.
(Dermott flies back to Maeve)
