(Sinbad enters main cabin from guest cabin. Maeve enters from above with Dermott)

Maeve: You asked to see us?

Sinbad: Yeah (whispers) - whatever happened on deck, Dermott saw it all. Can you ask him what it was?

Maeve: I can try. (looks at Dermott) Hey... what happened to Maruf? How did he die?

(See water, someone falling in, Maruf screaming, then the wailing sound and something going beneath the waves)

Maeve: He drowned.

Sinbad: How can a man drown in less than a minute?

Maeve: I don't know. But that's what Dermott revealed to me.

(The next day, Maeve and Rongar come up from below. Walk over towards Sinbad, Doubar and Firouz)

Sinbad: At least the wind is back with us.

Maeve: Naturally, the powers of darkness have passed.

Sinbad: I want us to head for the nearest harbour.

Doubar: And deposit our uninvited guests on shore? Good idea. It's about time we got back to our own crew, and our own course.

Firouz: According to my charts, we're very near the Island of Dvatudvar.

Sinbad: Doubar, set the tiller for there. Firouz, show him where the island is.

(Firouz and Doubar leave, Sinbad turns to Maeve and Rongar)

Sinbad: Maeve, Rongar, keep an eye on our passengers.

Maeve: Right. Let's go.

(Inside guest quarters)

Fontassel (looking up through the grate): Another day.

Tello: Leading to what? (pacing)

Fontassel: Our continuing survival.

Tello: Is that what you call this?

Fontassel: Think of what our options were.

Tello: How far back do you want me to go? Back to when I signed on to sail with you that day of the first curse?

Fontassel: Don't blame me for your cursed life.

Tello: That I don't. You and I just brought out the worst in each other. Temptation itched. We both wanted to scratch.

Fontassel: You don't know what you're talking about so why don't you just quit talking.

Tello: Oh, I'm through giving any thought, and I'm through listenin' to you, and her, not another day, not one!

Fontassel: Just calm down! She doesn't appear in the light of day. So let's go up on the deck.

Tello: No! (throws Fontassel onto a hammock) I said, I'm through listening to you! Not a word! Not a bloody word!

Fontassel: I am still your captain!

Tello: Then call this a mutiny of one.

(They start to fight. Door opens and Rongar steps in, pulling Fontassel off Tello while Maeve tries to calm Tello. Tello pulls a knife)

Tello: Keep...your hands off me! Or I'll slice your gut.

Maeve: No one's here to harm you.

Tello: Harm? Harm's been done. What's become of me - can't you see? Can't you? I'm the walking dead - that's ready to drop.

Maeve: You've been through a terrible ordeal. Your healing will take time.

Tello: My time is running out. Now... I want all of you to leave me alone. You heard me...leave!

(Rongar takes a struggling Fontassel out of the room. Maeve slowly backs out and Tello closes the door. Hears the sound)

Tello: Now, come and get me.

(Above deck)

Sinbad: What's the matter?

Maeve: They were fighting. We pulled them apart, but now the one's locked himself in the cabin and he's armed and I'm afraid he might intend to do harm to himself.

(Sinbad stalks off - confronts Fontassel who's sitting on the steps)

Sinbad: What happened?

Fontassel: He's gone mad. There's nothing I can do about it.

Sinbad: You're right. That opportunity passed. Doubar! Rongar! Follow me!

(Doubar, Rongar and Sinbad go below. Maeve stares down at Fontassel)

(Below deck)

Sinbad: Open the door!

(Inside the room, Tello stands with knife as a figure appears. He starts screaming.)

Sinbad: Do you hear that…Doubar, break down the door!

Tello: Help me!

(Above deck)

Maeve: What is it? Tell me.

(Seaweed appears)

Firouz: What in the name of science....

(Seaweed wraps itself around Firouz)

Firouz: Maeve! Maeve!

(Below deck)

Tello: No! No more! Please! I said no more!

(Woman beckons - Doubar and Rongar still try to break down the door when they see green slime ooze from under the door)

Doubar: Must be bewitched!

Sinbad: We've got to smash through. Rongar, get the axe.

Tello: Help!

(Above deck)

(Firouz and Maeve Struggle to get seaweed off Firouz)

(Below deck)

Sinbad: Hit it! Rongar, the axe!

(seaweed disappears, noise stops, door stops shaking)

(Above deck)

Maeve: Are you all right?

Firouz: I think so.

(Below deck)

(Door swings open -- cabin is covered in seaweed. Tello is dead on the floor)

Doubar: The same blue face of a drowning victim.

Sinbad: Only if the victim drowned a week ago. (looks at Doubar then at Rongar) No, I don't have the answers. But I'm gonna get some.

(The two crews are gathered in the cabin)

Sinbad: Tell us! We're not leaving this room until you tell us exactly what happened to you and your crew.

Fontassel: I met an old mariner at a seaport tavern. He boasted of having a map. An ancient map to an island. All rocky perch where, ah, Poseidon rises from the depths to sun himself. This spot, where the sea god would occasionally leave his trident. A solid gold trident.

Firouz: And you believed him?

Fontassel: I wish I hadn't.

Sinbad: This man. He just gave you this map.

Fontassel: Tello took it from him. But first, we had to kill him.

Maeve: Cursed by spilt blood.

Fontassel: We set sail for this speck of an island. On, arriving in the general area, we set to trolling our longboat. Why, I always travel with my topmates: Hackmit, Maruf and Tello. For days we searched. Found nothing. Then I spotted it. Sunlight glistening off gold. The Trident. We set our backs to rowing but...

Sinbad: But what?

Fontassel: Well, Dolphin surfaced alongside us. It seemed to warn us to turn back.

Maeve: It wasn't your enemy. One of Poseidon's Sirens. A sea spirit that can change her form to help...or hinder sailors.

Fontassel: That it was. It wouldn't leave us. It wouldn't allow us to get closer. So I roped up a harpoon and speared it through.

Firouz: Why would you do that?

Fontassel: Because, I had to remain in command.

(A noise is heard; a piercing, ear-splitting noise that only the other crew can hear; the Nomad crew can't hear it)

Sinbad: What followed.

Fontassel: Dolphin rolled over in the water.... dying, moaning...staring at us with its blackening eye...when it cried its last, it was no longer the sound of an animal. It was the voice of a woman. It disappeared beneath the waves.

Maeve: Foolish...foolish men.

Sinbad: Did you reach the island?

Fontassel: No…with it's departure, a sudden storm roared up from nowhere. Forced us back to our main ship. Oh, that wind howled and lashed at us. And the other crew members - oh, they swore they heard a woman's voice on the crest of that wind. They became, good for nothing. Despicable. So I...I…I ordered...I ordered my top mates into the longboat and we left the others to their petty despair.

Doubar: You what?!

Fontassel: They were useless. I had no choice.

Sinbad: You abandoned them?

Fontassel: Yes, I did. And we left them. Still they wailed like crying, pathetic children.

Sinbad: There is no more grievous sin than abandoning ship and crew.

Fontassel: I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Some sacrifices must be made.

Firouz: For the lust of gold.

Fontassel: Yes! You never saw it. You never felt it's pull, it's thrill. It waits for us still. All I need is a ship, and an obedient crew.

Doubar: The wind just died.

Fontassel: That's because we've returned. Its beckoning call has summoned us back.

Doubar: I say we tie this madman up!

Fontassel: But you're not the Captain!

Sinbad: But I am. Confine this man to his quarters!

Fontassel: (grabs Maeve and holds a sword to her throat) Wrong answer! You're all going to do my bidding, or she dies! Now move to the other quarters! Now!

(Sinbad, Doubar, and Firouz go into the other room)

Fontassel: Get in there! (to Rongar) All but you! Stay out here with us. Now, if any devil comes looking to even the score, it'll find you.

Sinbad: This is your curse. Not ours.

Fontassel: I'm more than willing to share. And if I see any of your faces above deck, she dies.

(The three men go into the next room)

Fontassel: Barricade the door! Quickly!

(Rongar puts some things in front of the door)

Fontassel: Make sure it keeps them there!

Sinbad: No, not just yet.

Doubar: Sinbad, may I remind you that a loony has just taken control of our ship?

Sinbad: A loony who also has a blade at Maeve's throat!

Firouz: Sinbad's right. We must exercise care.

Sinbad: As soon as they depart, we'll make our move.

Fontassel: Leave the weapons.

(Rongar takes off his bandoleer)

Fontassel: Now, topside.

(Fontassel, Maeve, and Rongar head topside)

(Fontassel, Maeve, and Rongar arrive above deck)

Fontassel: Men! You all have new orders! Those orders will be coming from me.

(The other three men are waiting until the others are gone, so they can escape)

Sinbad: They're gone.

Doubar: Well then, heave-ho!

(Doubar tries to open the door, with no luck)

Doubar: Damnation!

Sinbad: Yes, we're not having much luck with doors today, are we?

Firouz: I hesitate to consider what Fontassel's intentions might involve.

Doubar: Well, at this point, he certainly seems to hold all the cards.

Sinbad: And still overplaying his hand. But one good trump card, and he's going to be a loser.

Doubar: I just hope we get dealt that card.

Firouz: We need to wedge something in there and leverage the door open.

Doubar: Leverage. Coming up. (breaks a table)

(Rongar is tying Maeve to the mast because Fontassel told him to)

Fontassel: Done? Ah, that will hold her. Now, man the shore boat. And make sure it's my shore boat, not yours.

(Doubar takes a board to the door; but it breaks when he tries to open it)

(Above deck)

Fontassel: Do it!

(Doubar, Firouz and Sinbad notice green ooze beginning to seep under the door)

Doubar: Don't like the looks of that.

Sinbad: None of us do. We've gotta get out of here!

(Topside)

Fontassel: Cover the nearby area, men! Everywhere!

(Fontassel's back is turned to Maeve, so she uses this chance to use some magic)

Maeve: (whispers) Poseiden, Poseidon, let my binds be undone.

(The ropes holding her wrists loosing, and she is free)

Fontassel: Cover the water quickly! Put your backs into it, men! Travel West and look for a rocky spit. There lies the golden Trident of Poseidon. Bring it back by sundown, or the woman dies. Don't find it, and I'll leave ya out in the open sea.

Maeve: (whispers) Raiser vat raiser vee, bring his swords to me. Raiser vat raiser vee, bring his swords to me!

(The swords fly out of Fontassel's hands, and he turns around to face Maeve)

Fontassel: Plotting behind my back are we?

(Rongar leaves the longboat to join the others on board the Nomad)

Minor Crewmember: No, Rongar! Stay with us!

(Rongar doesn't listen)

Fontassel: One more step, and you're shark food. Now get in the boat. All of you! Find that island or be lost at sea! Now!

(Maeve lets out Sinbad, Doubar, and Firouz; they suddenly hear a screaming, then a woman appears)

Firouz: My word...

Doubar: Maeve, stand back.

Maeve: No. She's not here to do us harm. Are you? You're Eurynome. They harpooned you. We're not a part of those men. We're merely innocent bystanders who have fallen under your attacker's control. We now share the same enemy, and if you let us, we'll right this wrong.

Sinbad: Let's regain our ship.

Doubar: That's at the top of my to-do list.

(They leave for topside; Maeve hangs back a moment)

Maeve: Don't worry. We can manage this one ourselves.

(The crew arrives topside)

Sinbad: Fontassel! Yield! Or face your death!

(Sinbad and Fontassel fight)

Fontassel: Too late for either, good Captain Sinbad!

(Sinbad puts a spear through Fontassel, but doesn't kill him; instead, some green stuff comes out of his chest)

Sinbad: Sorcery!

Maeve: No. Punishment. For transgressing the gods in abandoning their crew, he and his topmates became the unholy.

Fontassel: Wrong. I became invincible. I mean, the four of us pledged ourselves to our evil and greed, it was a bond that filled our longboat with dark power. A power that kept us safe and it will keep me safe again.

Maeve: Your soul is damned. You can't survive.

Fontassel: Oh, I can. I will. I defy any and all who try to stop me! You see, once I have Poseidon's trident in my hands, all dominion and wealth will become mine! Mine!

Doubar: Sinbad! Something's rising from the depths!

(Poseidon slowly rises from beneath the surface of the ocean; the crew watches)

Poseidon: You! (points to Fontassel and uses magic to zap him)

(Poseidon smiles at the Nomad crew, then goes under the water again)

Firouz: The wind's returned!

Sinbad: Set the sails!

Doubar: For which direction, Captain!

Sinbad: Where we'll no longer be trespassers.

Doubar: Aye, aye, Captain.

(Later that day)

Doubar: They all perished in that storm, didn't they?

Sinbad: It appears so.

Firouz: As always, greed led them into treacherous waters.

Maeve: And they incurred the wrath of the gods.

Doubar: Traded their souls for gold. Always a bad exchange rate.

Sinbad: Well put, big brother.

Firouz: Look!

(They see the dolphin Fontassel and his crew spoke of)

Doubar: Could it be her?

Maeve: Yes, oh yes.

THE END
