Major Charactres: Sinbad, Doubar, Rongar, Maeve, Dermott, Firouz, Rumina, The Old Ones, Reynard, The Old Rumina, Fortasa, Trickster
(Maeve is riding her horse along the shore of an island; Rumina watches her)
Rumina: (laughs and picks up a lizard) I do so love these little vacation spots. You never know who you’re going to run into. Here I am, in the middle of nowhere, with my enemies all lined up, like ducks in a row. Just waiting to be destroyed. Please. I’m above all that. And where is your sense of fun? I’m not going to destroy them outright. I’m going to have a little fun first. Now, as much as I’d love to sit and chat, I have work to do. (laughs as she puts the lizard down) Let the games begin.
(Maeve arrives at a shack on the island, stops, and gets off the horse)
Maeve: Hello? I brought your horse back!
(Dermott comes flying)
Maeve: Stay, boy. Hello? (steps on a hand on the ground) Dermott! Get out of here!
(Dermott flies off, and Maeve gets on the horse; Rumina sees Maeve, and uses her magic to pull her off the horse; Maeve falls and hits her head on the ground)
(The rest of the crew is sitting around a fire cooking a meal)
Doubar: Is it done yet, Firouz?
Firouz: (smells the fish) Just about.
Sinbad: (joins them) It’s good to take time to enjoy the sky and the sea, isn’t it?
Doubar: Aye. Fortune has indeed smiled upon us this voyage. Calm seas, soft wind, generous merchants.
(Everyone laughs)
Firouz: Maeve better get here soon, or she’ll miss her lunch. (pauses) Shall I call her?
Sinbad: (picks up a piece of raw fish and puts it down again, then gulps) No. Let her enjoy herself.
(Firouz glares at him)
Sinbad: The fresh air and all.
(Dermott flies to Maeve, and together they see a gigantic crab after them)
(Maeve throws a fireball then collapses)
Maeve: Dermott! Bring out word to the others!
(The crew runs to see what all the commotion is; they see smoke in the distance)
Doubar: Is that a fireball?
Sinbad: Maeve’s in trouble. Doubar, you come with me. Firouz, Rongar, stay here and keep your eye out.
Firouz: For what?
Sinbad: For anything that might have you for dinner. Maeve doesn’t use her fireballs lightly.
(They all go their separate ways)
(Opening Credits)
(Sinbad and Doubar are looking for Maeve, when they see Dermott flying overhead)
Sinbad: Dermott! Is Maeve okay?
(Dermott flies over Maeve)
Sinbad: Maeve!
(They run to Maeve)
Sinbad: Maeve! It’s me, Sinbad!
(Maeve wakes up)
Maeve: Sinbad?
(Sinbad nods)
Maeve: We have to get out of here. It’s evil.
Sinbad: What?
Maeve: The island.
Doubar: Just take it easy, Maeve. Just take it easy. By the looks of it, you gave yourself a nasty bump on the forehead.
Sinbad: Let’s take you back to camp.
Maeve: No. We have to go to the ship.
Sinbad: Now, slow down! Tell us what happened.
Maeve: There was a monster. From the sea! I took care of him, but where there’s one—
Doubar: There’s probably more.
Sinbad: We’ll discuss this at camp.
(They begin to head for camp; Dermott squawks from above)
Sinbad: (looks up) It’s all right, Dermott. She’s safe now.
(They see a whirlwind in the distance)
Sinbad: I may have spoken too soon. (pauses) Dermott! Alert the others!
Doubar: What the devil is going on?
Sinbad: Oh, I don’t believe it.
Doubar: Rumina?
Maeve: It’s time I took care of her, once and for all.
Sinbad: You’re in no shape to take care of anyone but yourself. Come on, let’s go!
Maeve: Who are you to give me orders?!
Sinbad: Your Captain! And your friend.
Doubar: This isn’t the time or the place, Maeve. Save your fight for when you have the advantage. Come on!
(They turn and head back to camp, when Firouz and Rongar meet them along the way)
Firouz: Trouble?
Sinbad: Of the Rumina variety! (pauses) There’s no way we can make it back to the ship. We’ll be torn to pieces by that whirlwind.
Doubar: Head inland?
Sinbad: I don’t think we have a choice.
Maeve: Dermott! Lead the way!
(They make it to a graveyard)
Doubar: I don’t like the looks of this, Sinbad.
Sinbad: Nor I. But these runes look like the only source of protection from Rumina.
Firouz: Sinbad! Look! Rongar’s found writing.
(The crew gathers around the rock)
Sinbad: It’s unlike any script I’ve ever seen before.
Firouz: It’s probably pre-Atlantian.
Maeve: It’s Alzackian.
Sinbad: Fine. Decipher it on the way out.
Maeve: No, wait! I can make it out! Dim-Dim taught me to read it. It was part of his training.
Sinbad: Rumina’s going to wipe us out if we don’t move.
Maeve: (reading the writing) This is a place of darkness, and shadows.
Doubar: I could have told you that, without reading the rock.
Firouz: What’s it say?
Maeve: Beware all mortals. This is the resting-place of the Old Ones. Only their power rules here. No magic from the outside has any power here. Pity to all those who enter here and disturb their eternal sleep.
Sinbad: Fine, it’s a graveyard.
Doubar: And it’s going to be ours, if we don’t get out of Rumina’s way.
Sinbad: Well, we have to make a stand. This place is as good as any. Over there, behind those stones!
Maeve: We’re desecrating magical grounds!
Sinbad: We’ll put a coin on the collection plate. Quickly, Maeve, over here!
(They hide)
Sinbad: Maeve, I suggest you disable her with one of your fireballs! When she’s weakened, we’ll go in and try to overpower her.
Maeve: She won’t let herself be overpowered.
Sinbad: We’ll go in for the kill.
Rumina: (while spinning) No magic from the outside has any power here. (laughs)
(Maeve tries to use her magic, but it doesn’t work)
Sinbad: Maeve!
Maeve: I don’t know what’s wrong!
Sinbad: Concentrate!
Maeve: I AM CONCENTRATING!!!!! It’s just not working!
Firouz: The rock! It warned us! Only the Old Ones’ powers mean anything on this ground!
Doubar: Translation?
Firouz: Maeve has no power. We’re as good as dead!
(Rumina stops spinning and falls down; the crew comes out of hiding and goes up to her)
Sinbad: Need some help?
Rumina: Stand back, Sea Dog! I’ve tolerated your insolence long enough! Now you’ll feel my wrath. You’ll all feel my wrath! (tries to use magic, but it doesn’t work)
Sinbad: Feeling any wrath yet?
Maeve: No. But I’m downwind of something rotten.
Rumina: Well, you sorry little sidebuster a spell-caster!
Maeve: (walks towards Rumina) Come on, you witch! I’ve waited for this moment since the first day we’ve met! Your powers won’t work here, Rumina. Neither will mine. The Old Ones control this place. Looks like we’ll have to settle our differences up close and personal. What’s your weapon of choice? Sword, dagger—
(The Old Ones appear; Rumina runs and hides behind Sinbad)
Doubar: By my soul!
Firouz: Could they be the Old Ones?
Maeve: Whoever they are, I don’t think they’re gonna let us leave.
Doubar: We could rush them.
Sinbad: Something tells me that wouldn’t have much of an effect.
Firouz: Sinbad’s right, Doubar. We don’t know what kind of demons they might be.
Maeve: And we don’t have magic on our side.
Rumina: Well, we can’t just stand here and stare at them.
Sinbad: I’m open to suggestions.
Rumina: I, for one, am not gonna stand here and make goo-goo eyes with a bunch of ghouls who have no flare for fashion! Out of my way, cretans, or I’ll turn you into toads!
(The Old Ones roar and Rumina runs back to the crew)
Rumina: Or perhaps we could stay here for awhile, and observe their behaviour. You know, learn all their weaknesses.
Sinbad: Yeah.
Firouz: Very savvy scientific observation, coming from a witch!
(Rumina glares at Firouz)
Firouz: I meant that as a compliment.
Sinbad: Rumina has a point. We can’t get past them in broad daylight. And we can’t stand here forever, out in the open. Who knows how many friends of theirs are waiting out there.
Doubar: What about the ruins? We could camp there, until we come up with a plan of action.
Sinbad: I bow to your wisdom, big brother. Now everybody, let’s move back, slowly. Don’t antagonize them.
(They slowly move back)
Sinbad: (sighs) All right. We may as well make ourselves comfortable. Looks like we’re gonna be stuck here awhile.
Rumina: Comfortable. Have you looked at this place? It’s filthy!
Maeve: Why don’t you conjure up a few servants to tidy the place up?
Sinbad: Enough!
Rumina: You’re kidding.
(Sinbad glares at her)
Rumina: All right, you’re not kidding.
(The Old Ones disappear)
Firouz: Sinbad! They’re gone!
(Sinbad runs and joins Firouz)
Sinbad: Maeve?
(Maeve shakes her head)
Rumina: Well, it’s been nice.
Sinbad: Wait! They’re not gone. We just can’t see them.
Maeve: Wherever they are, they’re still waiting for us.
Firouz: Well, maybe I can reason with them…appeal to their intellect!
Doubar: Firouz, don’t talk nonsense.
Firouz: At least I’m trying to figure a way out of this!
Doubar: Oh, and I’m not? (looks at Rongar) What are you looking at?!
(Rongar shakes his head)
Rumina: So, this is the big, happy family you care so much for. Why don’t you just let them fend for themselves, and concentrate on how you and I are gonna get outta here?
