John Redmond Lake, Kansas

Pictures

John Redmond lake is located in Coffey County. The equestrian area is primitive. Restrooms are located near the trail head on the East side of the camp. There are a few tie poles which allow you to tie up picket lines or you can set up portable pens in the un-mown grass areas, horses may also be trailer tied. There was one water hydrant which we shared amongst us. There are approximately 26 miles of trails. Shower facilities are located a short drive from the horse camp. The town of New Strawn has a conveinence store located at the entrance to the park on highway 75.

Update 6/20/00:  Our club rode this park the 10th and 11th of June, we rode for about five hours on Saturday and two hours on Sunday. We rode through fields and woods with some gravel road riding included. We saw a fawn lying at the base of a tree right next to the trail, all 20 riders passed it without disturbing it and I hope my picture comes out. I'll be adding that and other pictures soon.

Opinion:
The terrian is medium with some water and road crossings. Horse shoes are not needed if your horses are used to being bare foot. This is a good place to condition the horses.

Directions:
From I-35 south of Kansas City exit on highway 75 south the park entrance is on the right. The horse camp is located at the Dam Site camp area.

Fees:
Admission fee $4.00 per vehicle
Overnight Camping fee $5.00
(check out time is 12:00 except Sundays and Monday Holidays then it's 2:00)

See you on the trails!
