La Cygne lake is located in Linn County. The equestrian area is primitive. Restrooms are located near the equestrian parking area. There are several tie poles with rings on top for securing horses. There are approximately 26 miles of trails. Shower and Laundry facilities are located a short drive from the horse camp. The Marina has a well stocked store and maps of the trails. Riders must register, one per vehicle at the Marina.
Update 6/20/00: Todd and I explored the blue trail with some friends, we rode for about two hours and had a great time, we saw tons of deer, there was one field that had a herd of them, must have been 12 of them and when they started running the horses got real still. I had the camera packed along (which I've added to my trail bag since the ride at El Dorado when I forgot it) so I'll be adding pictures soon.
Opinion:
The terrian is easy to medium with some water and road crossings. Horse shoes are not needed if
your horses are used to being bare foot. This is a good place to condition the horses.
Directions:
From 69 Highway south of Kansas City exit on K-152 and take a left at the bootom of the ramp.
Take the first left follow for 1 mile and the park entrance is on the right. There is a sign stating
that you must register at the Marina and a maintenance building on the right, shortly after that
the paved road turns left and a dirt road goes straight, follow the dirt road to the horse camp.
Fees:
Admission fee $2.00 per vehicle
Overnight Camping fee $6.00 (includes admission fee)
See you on the trails!
