This fish is a fish that is fast-swimming and that drops sticky eggs when spawning. Keep the temperature at about 78F. Put plants, rocks, and driftwood in the tank. Plants should be prvided to hold the eggs.
The gender is easily determined because the female gets much broader and rounder than the male and while she loses color, the male increases color and develops a red nose as he grows. The spawning tank should be a 20 gallon size at minimum. In the tank feed her tubifex and daphnia witha medicine dropper. Live food is needed for the female to have the fry. When the female gets large enough that it looks like she won't get any bigger place two more males in the spawning tank. After that the spawning should take place in a short time. While the fish are spawning they should be fed daphnia by the eyedropperful. If you're lucky the fish will eat the good food rather than the eggs. If they choose the eggs try to pull out the plants that contain the eggs and stop feeding the live food. Place the eggs in a tank with the same water as from the spawning tank, except in a different one. When the young have reached the swimming size be very careful because these young will jump out of the tank as soon as you give them the chance to. The eggs will hatch in abou two days, don't forget to remove the parents or they'll eat the young. Feed the young brine shrimp, microworms and finely sifted daphnia.
