The American Academy in Rome is the only American overseas
center for independent study and advanced research in the fine arts and the humanities.
American Oriental
Society
The American Oriental Society is the oldest learned society in
the United States devoted to a particular field of scholarship. The Society was founded in
1842, preceded only by such distinguished organizations of general scope as the American
Philosophical Society (1743), the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1780), and the
American Antiquarian Society (1812).
American Philological
Association
Founded in 1869, the American Philological Association (APA)
is the principal learned society for classical studies in North America. Its membership is
composed primarily of university and college teachers of classical studies in North
America. Its members also include many preparatory school teachers as well as members from
outside the United States and Canada.
American Research
Center in Egypt
ARCE is the professional society in the United States of
specialists on Egypt of all periods. It is also a consortium of universities and museums
that support archaeological and academic research in Egypt and whose membership is open to
the public.
American School of Classical
Studies at Athens
More than one hundred years ago, in 1881, scholars from nine
American universities banded together with a group of leading businessmen to establish the
American School of Classical Studies at Athens. It was their stated purpose to offer both
graduate students and scholars the opportunity to study Greek civilization at first hand,
in Greece.
American Schools of Oriental
Research
The American Schools of Oriental Research's U.S. based
coordination center, its publications program and its affiliated overseas centers in the
Middle East have been in the forefront of American research efforts and publications
related to these efforts since 1900.
American Society of
Greek and Latin Epigraphy
Founded in 1996, The American Society of Greek and Latin
Epigraphy is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to further research in, and the
teaching of, Greek and Latin epigraphy in North America. The Society fosters collaboration
in the field and facilitates the exchange of scholarly research and discussion, both in
the public forum and in published form. The Society is associated with L'Association
Internationale d'Epigraphie grecque et latine (AIEGL).

The Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) has been
dedicated to the encouragement and support of archaeological research and publication and
to the protection of the world's cultural heritage for more than a century. A non-profit
cultural and educational organization chartered by the U.S. Congress, it is the oldest and
largest archaeological organization in North America, with more than 10,000 members around
the world.
