Queens 12/26: Chris Woodward reporting. … The show started with Lance Storm coming to the ring with Tammy Lynn Bytch. He cut a promo about how he was lacking in competition for the PPV. He mentioned the Jerry Lynn was too injured, and shouldn’t even bother trying to make the PPV, then talked about Mikey Whipwreck leaving ECW for a place where "the only competition as good as me, is getting buried because he didn’t sign his contract", in reference to his former tag team partner Chris Jericho. Lance laid out a challenge to anyone to take him on later tonight, and earn a spot in the three way dance at the PPV. "Highway to Hell" started up, and Spike Dudley hit the ring to a big ovation. Kick to the groin. Acid Drop. 1-2-3. Crowd explodes again. To cap off his quick win, Spike grabbed Bytch and planted a big kiss on her before leaving the ring. He will be in the three way dance at the PPV will now be Lance Storm, Jerry Lynn and Spike Dudley. Great opener to the show.
Next, we had the return of Pablo Marquez (Babu in the WWF) to ECW, as he would be taking on Yoshihiro Tajiri. Pablo got a nice hand and a brief "Babu" chant coming out. Tajiri received a mixed reaction of respect, disrespect, and silence from the crowd. That would change shortly. They started out with some matwork, but soon Tajiri laid in some stiff kicks, and a springboard elbow, leading to a big "ECW" chant. Tajiri followed that with an over the top somersault senton to the floor, followed it with his Boston Crab over the ropes, then hit some more kicks. Pablo took over with some armbars and headlocks (including a chinlock that Tajiri bit his way out of), then hit a spinning plancha after throwing Tajiri out of the ring. They soon started exchanging kicks and some very loud slaps in the ring. Tajiri took over with a German Suplex for a two count, then hit a brainbuster for the pin. Tajiri once again totally won over the crowd, and received a big ovation for the match. Not sure if Pablo is back here in ECW for one shot or not, but he looked good as well.
Joey Styles came out for the TV opening, and announced to the crowd that this would be the first episode of ECW to air in New York (under the new deal with MSG). He then announced that there was a problem with the upcoming PPV, in that there was no challenger for the World Title. Joey brought out Shane Douglas and Francine, who gloated over the fact that Sabu could not make it to "Guilty as Charged" since he has been injured by Taz. He said Taz "did the heist, so I’ll pay the price" and called him out so he could pay him. Taz came out in street clothes, Shane offered Taz cash, Francine, a spot in the Triple Threat, and all three if he wanted. Taz said he didn’t need his money, or Francine, and that the Triple Threat was dead. He said his price was to challenge Shane for his belt at the PPV. He then did a variation on his old tagline, proclaiming "I’m Taz, the next ECW World Heavyweight Champion, beat me if you can, survive if I let you". The crowd popped, and Shane Douglas dropped to his knees, begging Taz to change his mind, as he left the ring. The crowd started to chant "Taz is gonna kill you", and Shane went nuts on the mike, saying the match would never happen, at one point screaming "Heyman, I need the night off on the 10th!". Taz came on the mike from the back, told Douglas to save his energy, get out of the ring, and that he was going to "do the job" on the 10th. This led to a "Do the Job" chant. Francine then got on the mike, and told Shane how she was the only one who stuck by him, and how she warned him about Taz, but he didn’t listen. Francine said that he would be "by himself" for awhile, and he should think about what he’s done, and left the ring. Crowd was shocked by this, and Douglas looked like he was going to cry.
Nova, back in his old outfit (white and blue), came out looking very serious, as he was to take on Reckless Youth, making his long awaited ECW debut. Nova had on the old outfit only because the new one does not fit right. Youth got applause and a brief chant coming out, but it was obvious a large portion of the crowd didn’t know who he was. They started with some nice chain wrestling, and soon they went to the air, including a Nova plancha outside the ring, and a Reckless springboard dropkick in it. Reckless hit a slingshot springboard somersault senton to the floor, and both wrestlers hit hard into the railing. Reckless scored a two with an Asai Moonsault, but Nova came back with a second rope Samoan drop. Reckless hit a huracanrana, and a second rope DDT, but Nova stopped a top rope powerbomb attempt, and turned it into a facecrusher. They traded reversals on a victory roll, and Reckless got the pin. Afterwards, the two shook hands.
Next up was the FBI, Tracey Smothers and Little Guido, with Tommy Rich and Jeff Jones, vs. Danny Doring and Roadkill. Tommy got on the mike, and introduced the newest member of the FBI, from "Little Chicago", the One Man Gang. Match went back and forth early on, with Guido looking very good. Doring and Roadkill hit a Hart Attack on Smothers, but Guido stopped the pin with a top rope elbow. Roadkill hit the walking the ropes elbow, and a top rope splash on Smothers, but the One Man Gang came in and laid out Doring and Roadkill with 727 splashes. Suddenly, Big Sal E. Graziano came out of the dressing room, flanked by several porn stars (including Tom Byron, who many in the crowd apparently recognized) and Big Guido, who was wearing a tuxedo. Sal and OMG were about to go at it, but Big Guido and Tommy Rich held them apart, and Sal and company left the ring. Meanwhile, Little Guido and Tracey hit a double fisherman’s buster on Doring for the pin.
Next was Lucha Libre time, as Super Crazy took on Antifaz del Norte. They started out quick, with armdrags and takedowns, Norte hit a second rope huracanrana, then scored with a slingshot somersault senton to the floor. Crazy came back with a slingshot dropkick, a baseball slide, a space flying tiger drop, and a moonsault off the guardrail. Norte fought back, and connected with a top rope somersault spinning senton to the floor, which got a "ECW" chant from the crowd. They traded pinfall attempts and reversals. Both men missed top rope moves, then Norte got a two count with a rana. He attempted it again, but Crazy turned it into a powerbomb for the win. They won over the crowd, despite most in attendance not knowing who they were (fans referred to Norte as "Mysterio" since he had a similar outfit on tonight, and Crazy as "Raven" since they have similar hair").
Lance Wright, in his last match with the company, brought out Skull Von Crush to take on the mega-popular Rob Van Dam for the Television title. They traded holds, with Rob Van Dam taking over with a series of great spots outside the ring including a Van Daminator, Flying body press, and huracanrana, all off the guard rail. RVD went to the top, but Skull crotched him, then hit a side suplex from the top rope, followed by a second rope elbow. RVD fought back with a powerslam, and a somersault into a senton splash. Skull tried to use a chair, but RVD gave him a drop toe hold into it. Wright ran in to stop Van Dam from using the chair, but Bill Alfonso ran in and started to beat up Wright, which got a huge pop. Van Dam punctuated the beating, by giving Wright a frog splash from the top. Skull recovered, and hit Van Dam with a wicked chairshot. He climbed to the top, but Fonzie stopped him, and RVD crotched him on the ropes. Van Dam then hit a top rope Van Daminator and a standing moonsault for the pin. Rob Van Dam may have passed Taz as far as popularity in New York is concerned, which is impressive.
Now it was time for the Dudleys. Bubba challenged the crowd, and one shirtless maniac actually dropped off the balcony into the crowd, where he was then hoisted out of the building by security. They brought the female porn star that was with Tom Byron earlier into the ring, and she read a holiday poem with Joel Gertner. Gertner was hilarious, and the female, well, let’s just say her acting ability is perfect for porno. The Dudleys then teased showing her breasts to the crowd, but of course, they didn’t, which further infuriated the crowd. Bubba demanded some opponents, insulted Paul E., and had the following exchange with Paul Heyman, who was on the mike in the back.
Bubba: The best in the business on the microphone, I call your ass out. You can come out here yourself, or you can send three people out, or are you a little scared, Dangerously?
Paul: I haven’t been Dangerously, since you were, I don’t know, since you were sixteen years old, two inches on the dick, or 250 f&%king pounds.
Bubba: You didn’t say fat.
Paul: I’m sorry, You’re absolutely right. I didn’t say Fu-fu-fu-fu FAT!
The crowd popped for this, and then Chris Chetti, Wolfie D and Rex King hit the ring. Big brawl, which saw Wolfie D get busted open within seconds. Chetti looked particularly good, hitting a leg lariat, superkick, fireman’s carry into a Michinoku Driver #2, and a triple jump moonsault on Big Dick. Bubba and D-Von broke up the pin, and hit 3D on Chetti, hit it again on Wolfie D, and Big Dick hit Total Penetration on Rex King. They piled up their opponents for the pin, in a very quick match. Bubba then got on the mike and claimed no one was tough enough to take on the Dudleys. Out came New Jack, Axl Rotten and Balls Mahoney, with the can of plunder. Total psycho brawl that saw more blood than I’ve ever seen in New York. All six men bled buckets. A fork was produced during the match, which both Balls and D-Von used in ways that would make Abdullah the Butcher proud. A really well built guitar was used, as it with stood three hard shots before finally breaking. Balls was chokeslammed through a table on the floor by Big Dick. The Dudleys took over, and Axl retreated to the locker room, only to return with the barbed wire bat. Axl used the bat on all the Dudleys, and hit a barbed wire bat legdrop on D-Von for the pin. New Jack got on the mike and insulted Bubba, getting a "New Jack" chant. Axl got on the mike and said "Yo’ New York, New Jack, Balls Mahoney and Axl Rotten would like to officially welcome back, hardcore f*@king violence!", which got a huge pop and an ECW chant. As they left, an "Axl" chant broke out, and he came back for a curtain call, as this was his first appearance in New York in several months.
Now it was time for the main event, as Tommy Dreamer was to take on Justin Credible, with Jason, Nicole Bass, and his new woman, who Bob Artese didn’t announce the name of (but she works indies in Texas as Jazzmyn). Lance Storm and Tammy Lynn Bytch came out, and complained that he was screwed over earlier, that he was not an opening match wrestler, he was a main eventer, and told one of them to leave so he could be in the main event. Dreamer got on the mike and challenged to make it a three way dance. Dreamer then went into Andrew "Dice" Clay mode (remember him?) And insulted every female in the ring, including Jason. Dreamer then asked if their was a decent set of breasts in the building. Out came Francine, who offered to show everyone hers. Lance Storm stopped her before she took her top off, and brought her to the back, while Justin and Dreamer started going at it. Dreamer hit a spine crusher, then ran Justin into the rails a few times. Lance soon returned, and double teamed Dreamer. It stayed two-on-one for awhile, until both missed slide kicks. Credible almost crotched himself on the ring post, and in a funny spot, a tug of war took place. Dreamer, in the ring, pulled on Credible’s arm, Jason on the floor pulled on one leg, and Storm on the floor pulled the other leg. Dreamer let go, and Jason and Lance crotched Credible on the ring post, which led to the two of them arguing. Dreamer went for a Spicolli driver on Credible, but Lance blocked it, allowing Credible to hit a DDT. Lance then put Dreamer on a table outside, and dropped an elbow on him from the apron, putting him through it. A chair was brought in, and was used by all men. Lance and Justin finally started arguing, and while they went at it, Nicole Bass was stalking Tammy Lynn Bytch outside the ring. Dreamer went to the back, and Lance and Credible ended up armdragging each other headfirst into the mat. Dreamer came back out with a ladder. Justin and Lance tried to baseball slide it into him, but missed and Dreamer blasted both of them with it, sending Lance flying over the rail into the lap. Dreamer hit slingshots on both into the ladder, then followed it with powerslams, laying both out on the ladder. Dreamer went for a second rope elbow on both, but missed. Lance and Credible then brutalized Dreamer with the ladder. Dreamer fought back, and the women hit the ring to attack Dreamer, then turned on each other. Dreamer pulled them up, and set up the double DDT, but Credible hit him with the cane. Dreamer ducked a second cane shot, and set up Credible for the Dreamer Driver, but Storm got the cane and cracked it across Dreamer’s head. Lance then cracked Credible with the cane, and he fell into a rollup by Dreamer to be eliminated. Dreamer then caught Lance with a Russian legsweep with the cane to win the match. Terry Funk came out from the back with a microphone, and started to berate and beat up Dreamer. Funk got a big ovation coming out, then the crowd sat in stunned silence as Funk was vicious in beating up Dreamer. Funk was absolutely fantastic on the mike, saying how Dreamer had disappointed him, and how he had no dignity. Credible joined in, and they used chairs, the cane and the ladder on Dreamer, and left him laying. As Funk left, he went into the crowd to face a fan that was challenging him. The fan took off real fast.
