Article IV : Criteria for, and Duties and Privileges of Membership.
  1. Criteria.
    1. Companion: any person may be admitted into a Shire's Chapel,
      at the discretion of the Chaplain. Companions include guests invited to
      attend a specific ritual, ceremony, function, or event; as well as those
      invited to attend rituals, etc., on a regular basis.
    2. Lord: a Companion Awarded Arms by a Duke, who may serve in
      any Shire office, save Seneschal.
    3. Squire: any Companion who wishes to enter the Chivalry must
      have a Knight sponsor and mentor him. If accepted, the candidate is
      made a Squire and trained by his mentor for a period of one year.
    4. Knights of the Round Table.
      1. Knight-Errant (known always as Knight-Errant): any
        person may be made a Knight-Errant, solely at the discretion of the
        Pendragon, a Duke, or a Knight-Chaplain. This is an honorary title. A
        Knight-Errant is not bound by the Laws and Canon of the Order, nor takes
        a Vow of Fealty to the Order. A Knight-Errant may not advance within
        the hierarchy, unless first renouncing his Errant Knighthood and
        becoming a Squire.
      2. Knight-Questor (known simply as Knight): After a period
        of training as a Squire, an Inquiry is held by the Shire's Knights, to
        determine whether the Squire is ready to advance to the Knighthood. A
        vote shall be taken of the Shire's Knights, which shall require a
        unanimous vote. If the Squire is not accepted, a longer period of
        training may be required. If the Squire is accepted, the Chaplain shall
        administer the Accolades.

    5. Priesthood.
      1. Knight-Chaplain: Any Knight who wishes to become a
        Priest of the Grail shall enter study under a Chaplain, such training to
        be of a duration of at least one year. After that time, an Inquiry
        shall be held by the Duke and all Chaplains of the Realm, at which time
        vote shall be taken, which must be a unanimous vote. If the Knight is
        accepted, he is consecrated by the Duke. A Knight-Chaplain may form his
        own Chapel, or may work within an established Chapel, or both, solely at
        his discretion.
      2. Duke: A Knight-Chaplain is appointed as a Realm's Duke
        by the Pendragon and Council of Dukes, using whatever criteria the
        Council sees fit.
      3. Pendragon: One Duke is elected to the position of
        Pendragon by the Council of Dukes, according to Article VII (Election of

        the Pendragon).
  2. Duties and Privileges.
    1. Companions may:
      1. be permitted (but not required) to attend any ritual,
        ceremony, function, or event to which he has been invited;
      2. not be permitted to wear any of the distinctive belts or
        badges of the Order, with the exception of household badges; and
      3. not bear blades of any sort within the Chapel, unless
        permission be granted by the presiding Chaplain.
    2. Lords may:
      1. be permitted everything permitted to a Companion;
      2. be permitted to bear unique and personal arms; and
      3. be permitted to serve in any local office, save Seneschal.
    3. Squires may:
        a. be permitted everything permitted a Lord;
        b. study the doctrines and teachings of the Order, as
        prescribed by his mentor.
    4. Knights-Errant may:
      1. be permitted everything permitted a Companion;
      2. be permitted to wear the green belt and badge of a
        Knight-Errant,
      3. the badge of a Knight-Errant is Vert, a Battle Axe
        palewise argent;
      4. not be required to have served as a Squire, nor to take
        Vows of Fealty to the Order; and
        d. shall not be allowed to advance within the Hierarchy,
        save he renounce his Errant Knighthood and become a Squire.
    5. Knights-Questor may:
        a. be permitted everything permitted a Squire;
        b. be permitted to wear the green belt and badge of a
        Knight-Questor.

      1. be permitted to bear blades, be they daggers or swords,
        within the Chapel;
      2. be required to serve as a Squire before being accepted
        into the Chivalry, and to take Vows of Fealty to the Order;
      3. if willing, train a Squire in the doctrines and
        teachings of the Order,
        NOTE: A Knight may have no more than three squires at a
        time
      4. be trained as a Chaplain; and
      5. be permitted to attend, speak in turn, but not vote at
        the Round Table Gathering.
    6. Knights-Chaplain may:
      1. be permitted everything permitted to a Knight-Questor;
      2. be permitted to wear the green stole and badge of a
        Chaplain,
        which is Vert with a Goblet.
      3. act as Priests of their home Chapel;
      4. be permitted to attend the rituals and ceremonies of
        other Chapels, and may, with permission of the presiding Chaplain, act
        as Priests of other Chapels;
      5. if willing, train up to three candidates at a time in
        the art and craft of Priesthood.
    7. Dukes shall:
      1. be permitted everything permitted to a Chaplain;
      2. be permitted to wear the coronet of a Duke,
      3. rule his Holy Realm; and
      4. be required to attend and vote at the Round Table
        Gathering.
    8. The Pendragon shall:
      1. have all the rights and duties of a Duke;
      2. wear the crown of the Pendragon;
      3. sit in the Siege Perilous
      4. chair the Round Table Gathering.
