Grandma's Gift

I helped take care of my grandmother for four years, living in her home, and assisting her due to chronic heart failure and dementia. She watched as I beaded each piece and it was a joy for her to look at. I made her several simple pieces and one day she said to me, "I wish you would make me a really pretty bracelet." I completed this bracelet on Christmas Eve and slipped it on her tiny, emaciated wrist. She was in the horrible process of dying slowly due to congestive heart failure. She didn't know we were there. She died on my birthday, January 1, 1998, and I had the bracelet buried with her, a final gift from me. I made myself an exact duplicate and wear it a lot. It is a reminder of the love we shared, the joy and the pain. That is why this is called Grandma's Gift.
