Purchased these dolls as part of a lot fall 2001. One is a wooden doll.

Dolls in the Mary Miller Doll Museum Brunswick, Georgia November 2, 2001

Purchased this doll from an Australian through Ebay in October 2001. She said it was part of her mother-in-law's collection.

The smallest one stands 5 inches tall and is from Australia. He is made of hard plastic, has jointed arms and legs and has moving sleep eyes. He is in excellent condition as is his uniform ....clean fresh and no fading. The Australian Sailor was purchased at the Australian Gift Shop in London and still has the tags to that effect. He stands just under 7 inches in height with a beautiful face of excellent quality plastic (almost looks bisque). His arms are jointed but his legs are not. His uniform is a little dusty looking and has a 1/4 inch ink mark on trousers but there are no rips tears stains or damage to this doll. The last doll in this group looks to be a RAF doll from the UK but I am not sure of this. He too is in very fine condition although the index finger of his left hand is broken and their may be damage to his left ear (it could be just the join line on the doll) As we watch the world come together to fight terrorism I couldn't help but think that these three would be wonderful additions to a collection of army, airforce, and navy, dolls of the world. A LETTER ABOUT THE AUSTRALIAN DOLL CRAFTSWOMEN

[ comment: the first part of the letter has to do with an EBAY sale..I did not get these particular dolls.] I have assembled these dolls myself and had them for sometime now. The Fijian Policeman I can't remember where I got him from but I can tell you more of the others. The Islander girl, the Indian bride and the Sri Lankan dancer all came from one collection which I bought about 5 to 6 years ago now. They belonged to a lady who lived just south of Perth on the coast at a place called Golden Bay. Her sister had collected dolls since the 50's..all types...they had all been put into cabinets and were immaculate. The owner sister had died leaving them to the sister living in Golden Bay. She had stored them in boxes in her garage but had realised that some of them were beginning to deteriorate so she called me and I bought some and found buyers for some of the others...there were about 800 in all.

The Aboriginal girl was bought locally, for a short time there was a group of Aboriginal people who tried to set up a company to make Aboriginal dolls, I was asked for advice on this project and at the time we bought as many Aboriginal dolls we could find to see what the competition was. The company made one or two very good dolls and one or two not so good. They had a problem getting the equipment to mass produce and were having to have them made overseas...it sort of killed the idea and the company failed. .

Most of the International dolls that I have came from the Golden Bay collection and I am putting them into groups and selling them on eBay. I still have quite a lot of them left! Hope this helped, please email if you have any other questions.

Dolls of the World

I have just begun this page to share information about my own new international doll collection and to organize data about dolls of the world.

Contribute to my page, please. I set out to add a penpal from every country in the world several years ago, just as I am now aiming for a complete survey of dolls from every country. If you have a favorite memory of a souvenir doll please share and I will incorporate your comments under the appropriate country.

To me this is a way to travel the world without leaving home, though in fact it seems to be leading to plans for a trip around the world in my future.
