Purchased December 2002 from a Canadian seller who testified that he was sure the figure came from Liberia

These are all hand carved in Monrovia, Liberia in the early 1970's. They are very unique the way they are made. The body is carved of a light wood. The arms, legs and head are carved in dark wood and glued to the body.

The carver also did the reverse making dark bodies with light extremities. It took about 6 processes for each figure.

There is a sticker on the bottom of some of them that reads "Abdu Bako Monrovia, Liberia. There are little men with large bellies. Children watching TV. Woman feeding chickens. A witch doctor administering to his patient. Woman caring for her baby in a crib. People reading the Kuran. People riding animals.
