GATLINBURG RIDE
The Gatlinburg Ride was successful in that we had over 75 people for some of the best weather and
riding in quite some time. We gathered under the "Lunching Pad" at The Varsity downtown and after
handing my trademark itineraries with map" we went over where we were o- g how often we would slop
an the route we would take up the high a to Commerce we took US 441 north to Cherokee. We stopped
for one hour to allow everyone an opportunity to fill their tanks (both Harley and personal) and then rode
the winding mountain roads over the Smokies to Gatlinburg. The people at the Edgepark Motel
demonstrated the most organization of any motel most where the Chapter has ever stayed. They
processed us through in on time and even had "Welcome H-D of Atlanta" on the sign, out front. Man, talk
about being welcomed! After settling into our rooms we split up into smaller groups and went to eat
some more. A bunch of us walked down to The Peddler, where they seated us at some tables up in the
bar. The food was pretty good and When Mac and Deborah showed up, the wax started flying! (Ask
them about that one!) After dinner flying the tourist thing and strolled through the gift shops and candy
shops that line the streets. A bunch of us could not resist the mini-golf and stopped to demonstrate our
skills. It's funny, but the mountain air really makes you sleepy so we called it a night kind of early.
The next morning at 6 AM, I led a bunch of hearty souls on a Sunrise Ride in the Smokies where we went
out of Gatlinburg and took some quiet roads through the country. All went well up to where the road dead-ends and you have to bear to the right. Well, being in the lead and it being dark still, I was in the curve
and into the spilled gravel before I knew it. The bike and everyone involved survived with minimal
damage. We cranked back up and completed our ride with no more incidents. When we arrived back at
the motel one of our members was having starting problems. Before it was over and we got it cranked,
Just about everyone had gotten involved. If you see photos of the ride, yes, that is me blowing into a
Fatboy tank to pressurize the fuel. Just ask anyone who was there and they will explain it to you. Just
about then it was time to meet the others at the Log Cabin Pancake House for breakfast. We ate until we
almost popped. You can't go away hungry from a breakfast there. After breakfast and a couple of other
bike we headed back towards Atlanta and enjoyed a good ride back home.
