How man times have you been riding with friends and when you stop at a gas/rest stop, some older guy walks over from his mini-van full of grand kids to admire your bikes? He often takes a trip down memory lane, telling of the time he and some of his riding buddies pulled into some small town at dusk looking for a place to satisfy the hunger of being on the road all day. Around the corner from the movie house, they found a small mom and pop diner called Sam's that served the best pan-fried steak and at a price that couldn't be beat. As they were eating, the owner/cook came over and noticing the Harleys parked outside, revealed his boyhood dream of riding out on the freedom of the open road and how he traded that dream for the down payment on the diner. With the grand kids in mini-van, arguing in the background, the grandfather tells of the waitress in that dinner that had a wanderlust in her eyes and a yearning for a life outside of the small town and how she left with him that night to fulfill a dream of her own. His face glows as he recalls, the memories of their travels and adventures. How they got married in Phoenix on their way to Tucson for the dirt track race his brother was in and how they carved out a life together through thick and thin over the past 30 years. Today, he tells you, she still likes the adventure of the open road but instead of the two wheels of a big-twin she prefers the four wheels of a mini-van to take on their travels. As the strangers bids farewell, you feel renewed with the spirit of riding and the eagerness to discover new memories of your own just around the next set of curves.

This is what motorcycling is all about to me. New experiences, making new friends and the common thread that binds us together: MOTORCYCLES!
