At night we talked beneath the stars
And listened to train whistles blow While crickets in the darkness chirped Too soon, it seemed, she had to go That dew could trap her laughter's ring Would be my hope if it were true And hold her voice that I might hear So once again we might be two I still remember her sweet touch And how we held each other tight How we both dared the sun to rise To steal from us this starry night While passion rose to find its place I kissed her eyes, then sought her lips I felt the blush rise to her face As I placed hands upon her hips But all too soon she had to leave There really was no other way I went inside and sat awhile Discovered that it now was day Sometimes two hearts can beat in sync And fate can often be unfair But still we have the best of each The honest, tender words we share |
