Chapter 50
"Ok, let's pick teams. I'll be a captain," Kate said. "I'll be a
captain too," Taylor said. "Ok, Tay. You pick first." "I'll pick
Beth." "Figures, I'll pick Kristin," Kate said. "Ok, I'll take Ike."
"And I guess we're stuck with Zac. Huh Kristin?" "Guess so," Kristin
said as Zac came running back. "I found the ball. Should we pick teams
now?" "Too late, you're on my team, with Kristin." "Aw, I got stuck
with you guys?" "Afraid so," Kristin said. "Hey Beth," Taylor said,
"your going to play goalie." "No, I do not play goalie! I play
defense. I've played defense for six years, and I'm not going to start
playing goalie now!" Beth yelled. "Ok, Ike, you play goalie." "Oh
fine!" Isaac said. On Kate's team, they made Kristin be goalie. "Don't
yell at me if they make any goals!" Kristin warned Kate and Zac. And
goals is what Taylor and Beth made. They won 8-1, and the goal that
Kate's team had was when Beth accidentally kicked the ball back into
the goal. Beth and Taylor went and sat down on the lawn and tried to
watch the others play two on two, but was having a hard time because
it was dark. Kate walked over to them. "Boy, you guys make a good
team," Kate, then whispered quietly, "in more ways than one." "What
was that?" Beth asked."Oh, it was nothing," Kate replied. The other
three walked over to them. "We probably should try to get into the
house now," Isaac said. "Yeah, maybe we could try Mackie's window. He
could probably open the door for us," Zac suggested. "Why not, it
couldn't hurt," said Kristin. They all walked over to Mackenzie's
window, and Taylor started tapping on it. They could all see Mackenzie
shift in his bed. He sat up, then started yelling, "Mommy! Mommy!
Help! They're out to get me!" "Oh great! Just what we need," said
Kate. They watched as Walker and Diana came running into the room and
turned on the lights. "What's wrong, Mackie?" Diana asked. "There's
somebody tapping on my window!" Mackenzie replied. Walker ran to the
front door. He turned on the outside lights, and opened the front door
to see six teens. "What are you doing out here?" Walker asked angrily.
"Uh, playing soccer and ditch," said Zac. "And something else," Kate
whispered to Zac. Zac elbowed Kate in the side and said, "Shut up."
"You were playing that at this time of night? It's 2:00 in the
morning! Everyone in the house, now! You're going to get a big
punishment. Not only for disobeying my curfew, but for scaring Mackie
half to death." "We're really very sorry," Kristin offered. "We'll
talk this over in the morning, but for now, you better stay up late
and watch a movie. After tomorrow, you won't be able to do that for a
long time." They all went up to their rooms to get their pajamas on.
"I'll be right back, I gotta go brush my teeth," Kristin said. After
she had left, Kate turned to Beth, "So, Beth, did you have a nice
night?" "What are you talking about?" "Oh I think you know! Do you
remember what happened in the willow?" "You saw that?!" Beth
exclaimed, her face turning red. "It was just me and Zac. Kristin and
Ike are clueless, and I'm not about to tell."
At the same time in the boys' room, Zac was jumping up and down on his
bed chanting, "Tay and Beth, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-" "What did
you see?" Taylor demanded. "I just told you," Zac said as he started
laughing. "Is there something I should know about?" Isaac asked. "No
Zac's just a peeping Tom," Taylor said. "No, I'm not a peeping Tom,
I'm a peeping Zac!"
(The radio's playing in the background)
Back in the girls' room, Beth was saying, "So that was why you were
making all those little comments tonight." "It might have been," Kate
said right as Kristin walked into the room. "Might have been what?"
Kristin asked confused. "Oh, just something about a song we heard on
the radio. "What movie do we want to watch?" Beth asked. "How about
The Sound of Music," Kate suggested. "Why not. It's long and it's a
good movie," Kristin said. Beth grabbed the movie and they all headed
down stairs.
