Chapter 63

"So what are we going to do today?" Kate asked. "Going to Laser Quest," replied Taylor. "We are?" asked Isaac. "Yep, and you're bringing us!" "Oh that will be fun. I guess," Kristin said. "Yes it will be fun," Zac replied. "Hello! I never said that we were going to go. I'm driving you know," Isaac said. "Please can we go? Please?" Zac asked in his sweetest voice. "Sure, why not? We haven't been there in a long time." "Yes!" Taylor exclaimed. "We'll go around noon, ok?" Isaac asked. "Aw that's late," Zac said. "That late, it's less than three hours away," Kate said. "Well I want to go now." "Too bad. Besides, they open at 11 o'clock," Isaac replied. Diana broke in when everyone was finished, "Boys, you can clear the table off." "Aw Mom! Come on," Taylor said trying to get out of it. "Who's going to end up giving you money for Laser Quest?" "Ok, fine we'll clean it off, but you have to give us some extra money for lunch," Zac said, hoping to get more money. "Do you want any money at all?" Diana asked. "Fine, no extra money," Isaac said. "Ok, you've got a deal." While the boys were cleaning off the table, the girls went into the living room to watch tv. Beth was twisting her ring around her finger. Kate noticed this and said, "That's real silver you know." "I know, but how did you know?" Beth asked, getting suspicious. "Oh, I'm just an expert on jewlery. Rings especially," Kate answered. "Did you read the note Tay gave me?" "It was sitting right on the dresser," Kate started. "Did you read it?" Beth demanded. "Maybe a little bit of it." "How much is a little bit?" "All of it," Kate blurted out, "You don't mind do you?" "Do I mind? Oh not at all! Why would I mind if you read one of my private notes?" Beth asked sarcastically. "Gosh, I'm sorry. It was sitting right there, and I was standing right in front of it, and it was begging me to read it. I tried to resist, but you know how I am," Kate said, trying to staighten things out, "Besides, you would have told me eventually, wouldn't you?" "What are you guys talking about? What note?" Kristin asked confused. "Nothing, I'll tell you later," Beth said to Kristin. "Come on! I want to know now! You never tell me anything!" Kristin begged. "I said, I'll tell you later now shut up! Me and Kate have to talk! Alone!" Beth said, sounding furious. She started walking towards the stairs, Kate followed. They went up to their bedroom. "Look, I'm really sorry. I didn't realize at the time," Kate said as Beth started laughing. "You thought I was serious? Was I that good?" "Beth, don't do that to me!" "Well, you deserved it!" "Yeah, I guess I did, but actually, I thought you and Tay were already going out when we saw you kissing in the willow tree." "Nope, it was just a kiss." "Well, you should have been going out," Kate said, "You two make a cute couple." "Thanks," Beth replied. "No prob Bob." "My name's Beth." "Oh yeah! How'd I forget? You're one of my best friends," Kate said hitting her head. Kristin came barginf in the room, "I demand to know what's going on!" "You see there's this boy and this girls and they're going out," Kate answered. "I already figured that out! Now I want to know more about it," Kristin whined. "Oh go cry me a river," Beth said to her. Kristin just ignored her and asked Kate, "How long have you known about this?" "Not long, only a few months," Kate said, trying not to smile. Kristin turned to Beth, who was also trying very hard not to smile,"You told her before you told me?!" "Yeah, I've known her longer, so I figured she should know first," Beth replied. "Oh thanks a lot! I thought we were good friends!" Kristin excliamed as she stormed towards the door. Before she could leave the room Beth and Kate started laughing. "What's so funny? Or can't you tell me that either?" Kristin asked, turning around. "Kristin, we were just joking! She hasn't known for months, I just got asked out this morning," Beth said, still laughing. "Oh," was all Kristin could say. "Sorry I didn't tell you, but I wasn't even going to tell Kate right away, but she's a snoop." "Hey, at least I admitted it!" Kate said as Taylor came and knocked on the door. "Guys, we're going to go now." "I thought we were going to go at noon?" Beth asked. "We were, but Zac keeps begging to go, and we're getting tired of it, so we're leaving now."
