The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
I loved the pictures of this book! During the whole book, the picture of the house does not move (even remains in the same spot of the pages). The seasons change around the house and the years go by but still the house stays the same. The story is told by the house's point of view. The story teaches that for every person (or House) there is a place and be patient because you will find it.

The Biggest Bear by Lynd Ward
The black and white pictures have a lot of depth and reality. I didn't really like the story at all. You think that Johnny is going to have to shot his bear. This may upset small children. Then all of a sudden they are trapped in a pen. Johnny then gets rescued by men who are capturing animals for the zoo. The bear gets to live in the nice cage at the zoo instead of running free on Johnny's farm or in the woods. I could find no moral in this story.

Time of Wonder by Robert McCloskey
Mr. Mclosky allows all to have a look at what a summer would be like on a little Maine Island. The pictures permit the story to come a love in brilliant pastels and vibrant colors. The story tells of a couple kid's summer in Maine. Finding porpoises playing, birds laughing at the wake left behind a boat, and of course a Hurricane. I loved the picture when the window blows open. This story is perfect for any age but the older ones would be more patient since this is a longer story. There really is no moral just a pleasant story.
1959
Chanticleer and the Fox adapted from Chaucer ill by Barbra Cooney
The illustrations from Chancticleer and the Fox. where modeled after real life chickens and the widow's world was based on real rare manuscripts to have the medieval world come alive. The book tells a moral: flattery will never lead to prosper. This story may frighten those preschool to kindergarten but anything above that should be fine.

Each new page is like a new painting fit to put on the walls of your house. The country side comes alive as the Ox-Cart Man goes along his everyday life. The story is full of repeating and in fact the whole story goes in a circle. It teaches that if you work hard then you will prosper. This book would be great for any age.
