THESE PICTURES WILL CHANGE AS THE RESTO GOES ON

Here's the official diary of restoring my '64. I will update the pictures as the work is done.

Current pictures: All taken the day that I brought the car home.

2-21-99 Ok, been away from the Chevelle for awhile. 2 other projects distracted me from the Chevelle. But they are both just about gone, now, so I'm back on the job. Today I cleaned all the junk accumulating on the roof, and started to pull things off of the engine. After pulling the water pump off, found some strange moldy junk inside where the coolant normally would be. Also found some lady bugs there. Next step again to pull the engine and trans out.

10-4-98 Had to buy a cutting wheel for my die grinder to get some of the bolts off. Finally have the front end off now. Will post new picture tomorrow. Next step, pull engine and trans.

9-26-98 Started working again. Will have all front end sheet metal off this weekend. As I get further into this, it really isn't that bad. I am pretty sure I'll keep the body I have now. Then, I found a hole in the frame. Not sure what I'll do about that, but I think I'll still keep this frame too. May have found a tilt steering column today. Need to buy some new tools, don't have 1/2 and 9/16 because everything I work on is metric!

9-13-98 Started taking apart front end. Seems like I took off about 100 bolts, but fenders are still on! Stuff is coming apart pretty easy though.

9-12-98 Picked up my rust free fenders today. 454 fell through, going to stick with 350 for now. Called Chevy and they are sending me a bunch of info about my car and possible parts connections.

9-1-98 Found a guy who knows a guy who might have a 454 for sale. Didn't want an engine, but now I think it's a good idea. Will see.

8-31-98 Thought I had it good. Found a guy who had a stripped 64 non-post malibu 2 door w/4speed. He said it sounded like his would be good enough to use with the frame and swap all my stuff over to and switch vins. I was already going over the order of how I would do it in my head. Then I saw the car. After seeing this one, mine doesn't look so bad. I am now considering putting on quarters and trunk floor and keeping most of mine. So much work! I know I have to learn to be more patient, I have only been looking for stuff for 2 weeks now.

8-28-98 Went to 3 yards today that were supposed to have parts I could use. Big ol' goose egg.

8-22-98 Began cleaning out inside, found mouse nest in headliner, no mouse. Thinking about how I am going to do this. Rear trunk floor is pretty badly rusted, body mounts and reinforcement not doing anything. I am either going to clip the entire rear end or find a completely stripped body to use on my frame.

8-19-98 More contacts found at work, haven't called them yet.

8-18-98 Found a guy at work who will sell me a good windshield, and 2 rust free fenders for $100.

8-17-98 Quick run through internet shows much hope for purchasing used and new parts.

8-16-98 Unloaded car from trailer, car doesn't run, pushed car off trailer, ran into wall in garage. Damaged drywall and buckled rear quarter panel. That's ok, it's rusted anyway.

8-15-98 Rented a Uhaul trailer, went to Louisville and picked up car, first time I had seen it in about 15 years. It's really alot worse than I thought. Lots of rust, need just about everything. Oh well, it was free so at least I didn't spend alot to get this far. It's an original SS 283 w/4speed.

8-8-98 Hadn't brought home car yet, still in storage. Bought 4 SS hubcaps from swap meet $30.
