My Duties as Telecommunication Engineer
QUALITY:
- BugFree, Inexpensive product development, Accurate & timely.
QUANTITY:
- Maintaining, enhanced and repaired parsers for 14 separate device types. This included enhancements to eliminate the DMS250Mapper, reworking the handling of current status in the 5500 and the 1631 and eliminating numerous memory leaks. I have also maintained and updated the notification mapping software namely the Device mapper.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
- Invented new design for parser to meet the needs of the new user groups. This design was implemented in three new device types, the SCP, the Tandem ONLINE and the DSC 400/610 switch. The new design provides a method to update the alarms recognized by the model by changing a data file. This means new alarms can be added to these devices without recompiling any code. This is not possible in any of the preexisting parsers.
JUDGMENT AND DECISION MAKING:
- On the Switch side I have dealt extensively with the end users in both specification and support roles. I helped define their requirements and found ways to meet them with a new parser design. For example, the Tandem ONLINE users wanted to distribute some alarms and send others straight to the database. The problem was that they could not be sure what all the alarms were going to be. We needed to be able to easily add new alarms to the parser. This was accomplished through my new parser design.
COMMUNICATIONS:
- Worked with the end users to identify and eliminate parsing issues frequently before they were identified by the user's themselves. Communicated all changes to the users and other group members in an accurate and timely fashion.
COMMITMENT:
- I am now capable of completing the entire process required to make a production change. I can, of course, check out, modify and check in code. I can also do the development builds, moves to QA and moves to Production. Along with accepting responsibility for much of the support in the Switch environment.
- Also involved in the Technical interview of Qualified Senior Developers, Object Developers, Project Leaders & Managers for the entire I S.
INITIATIVE:
- Came up with a good design & coding technique to parse a huge file (50 - 75 MB) to obtain the required information on the particular Customer, Circuit, LineSegment, Carrier, etc.
LEADERSHIP:
- Reworked and enhanced parsing tools, different QueryPanels. I made sure to co-operate with all the team members & made sure that they were all satisfied with my role in the team, helped in its design and verified the functionality of the final product. I also reworked the ProcessManager & DataManager Controller in my free time. I hope to make further enhancements to the DataManager Controller when time permits.
