STAINED-GLASS WINDOW ORNAMENT

MATERIALS

  • newspapers to cover work space

  • pictures from old magazines

  • white glue

  • lightweight cardboard

  • tissue paper or crepe paper

  • twine

  • transparent tape

TOOLS

  • pencil

  • scissors

  • foil pan

  • plastic straw or stick

Find a picture about 4 inches high in an old magazine and cut it out. Then glue the picture to lightweight cardboard for a pattern. Or you can draw your own pattern on cardboard.

Cut out the cardboard pattern. Place the pattern on a piece of colored tissue paper or crepe paper. Draw around the outline.

Mix some glue and water in a foil pan--about 2 tablespoons of each. Stir the mixture with a straw or a stick.

Measure out enough twine to go all the way around the ornament's outline. Dip the twine in the glue-water mixture.

Lay the wet twine on the ornament's outline, going all the way around. Cut off any twine left over.

You can decorate your ornament by gluing on pieces of tissue paper or crepe paper. Or you can glue on additional twine. When the twine is dry, cut out the ornament outside of the twine outline. Punch a hole with your pencil at the top. Put a piece of twine throught the hole for a hanger. Tape the hanger to a bright window with transparent tape, so that the light shows through.
