Sharon played the part of Jennifer North in "Valley of the Dolls."
Jennifer's struggle starts when her husband, Tony, is found to have
a disease that cannot be cured. Jennifer has to cope with this and
figure a way to make money. She ends up making foreign "art" films
which don't build up to much self-esteem for her. So many bad things
happen to her so she takes an overdose on "dolls" (upper and downer
pills.) It's really depressing that so many bad things happened to
Jennifer-she was the most sincere character. It's a pity they made
her life end like that. Either way the movie was great and we all can
learn an important lesson from it: "Somethings that seem right at the time,
can backfire and make a mess of life."
Barbara Parkins played the part of Anne Welles. She begins the story
as the narrator leaving New England for New York and leaving her family
behind. She gets a job but eventually becomes a model for Gillian
hairspray. Annie is calm and collected but falls for the "dolls" in the end,
but manages to break free.
Patty Duke played the roll of Neely O' Hara, a good singer turned bad because
of her new found fame and the "dolls." She was a talented, not-yet-discovered
singer. Eventually though she becomes famous. She let fame get to her
and turned into a drunk, pill-popping, tempermental woman. The dolls
changed all these women into something they never thought they would become.
And so they reached that climb into the "Valley of the Dolls."
