What is the purpose of the list?
To help BUCD alumni and friends keep in touch and as a forum for discussion
of any topic. It will hopefully be a way for alumni to network with each
other in the years to come. We are an informal group of like-minded yet
diverse individuals. There is no specific political agenda other then
support of the Democratic Party and Binghamton University.
SUBSCRIPTION INFORMATION
How do I subscribe?
Chances are you already figured that out since you are part of this group, but
if you need to subscribe there are two ways to do so. You can either register
your email address and join through the Yahoo!
Groups site or you can send a blank message to
bucd-alum-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
In either case, your subscription requests get sent to the list manager [Lori]
for approval. You will then be sent a VERY brief questionnaire to make
sure the applicant is either a BUCD alumni or any other person who is genuinely
interested in the discussion forum.
What if I don't want to be on this list anymore?
That's easy, to unsubscribe, send a message to:
bucd-alum-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com
But we will miss you, so don't leave us.
Why is egroups now Yahoo! Groups?
Don't you love the wonders of corporate mergers on the Internet. If
you have any questions about the new Yahoo! Groups or how to convert your account,
go to http://help.yahoo.com/help/groups/
Who can post to the list?
Only list members can post messages to the list. (to prevent spam)
So how do I post a message to the list?
To post a message to the group (from subscribed addresses only), send a message
to bucd-alum@yahoogroups.com
What can I post to the list?
You can post anything that your heart desires. Just remember that you
face the wrath of the entire group if you post advertising, porn, etc....or
maybe you won't, you never know.
So are there any rules for posting?
The answer to that is, not really. As I said, you can post almost anything
as long as you are a member of this list. Some time ago we did discuss
a protocol for posting news articles, jokes, etc. To alert people that
you are posting you can include the following in the subject line:
JOKE: or HUMOR: for jokes and other humor
ARTICLE: for newspaper and other stuff written by others
It isn't official, but if you are kind and caring, it does help some people filter their e-mail.
So are any topics off limits?
In the past we have discussed anything from sex to Star Wars movies, so as you
can see nothing is off limits. But some of us (I won't mention any names)
feel that too much discussion has been made over the Upstate/Downstate debate,
so it might be a good topic to avoid.
Is this list moderated?
No, posted messages can be sent directly to the list without any moderation.
There is no censorship on this list.
Is this list public?
No, you need to be a member of the list in order to read messages. This
way everyone can feel comfortable posting.
Is there an archive for this list?
The archives can be read only by list members (to encourage us to be free and
honest with our feelings without worrying about total strangers being able to
read what we've written) To read the archives, you have to first register
your address. To do that, you go to
http://groups.yahoo.com and signup with
the same account that you're registered to bucd-alum with. Once you get
a password, you can read the archives and access other group features at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/bucd-alum/
Do we have a homepage?
Yes, its at https://members.tripod.com/~bucd_alum/
We've been making lots of changes to our page, so you might want to check it
out.
Who came up with the idea for this list anyway?
I'm not really sure whose idea it was originally, but you can thank Lori for
creating and maintaining the list.
Why is that guy Scott always asking all kinds of questions?
For want of a better term, I am the unofficial discussion list instigator, which
makes it my responsibility to start discussions going, especially when there
is a lull in postings. But always feel free to start discussions about
any topic. Don't feel that you have to wait around for me. Like
everyone else, I am usually busy (except for now when I am writing this).
The reason I am always trying to start discussions, is that as an aspiring journalist
(maybe) I am always reading new things that may be of interest to the group.
And I love getting e-mail...so I figure that maybe people will respond.
What relationship do you have with Binghamton University, and in particular the alumni office?
Currently, we are not affiliated in any official way
with Binghamton University or the Binghamton University Alumni office.
For a variety of reasons the university and the alumni office can not approve
or support or release information on a political group such as BUCD-ALUM. For
more information click here.
