"I'D GIVE MY ALL,TO HAVE JUST ONE MORE NIGHT WITH YOU, I'D RISK MY LIFE TO HAVE YOUR BODY NEXT TO MINE" [My All]

~ In Brazil, 2 promo remixes for "Close My Eyes" are
available. They use a very updance beat, although the
vocals stay the same as the original. The beat they use
is "I'm not giving you my heart (Right from the start)"
  by India!!!

~ From E!Online News, they reported that Whitney Houston
and Mariah Carey will, together, sing the title song to
DreamWorks' first animated feature: the much hyped Prince
of Egypt. Expect fireworks. In anticipation of the two
gals igniting blazes--Mariah is notorious for making room
only for her hair, while Whitney is simply
"unpredictable" these days--execs at the Little Studio
That Could have arranged for the ladies to record their
patter separately. (That is, just as soon as Mariah
"finishes working out some details," says a DreamWorks
  source. Catered hairspray, no doubt.)

~ "My All" certified by RIAA & new remixes(29/5)
Sony says "My All/Breakdown" is certified GOLD and
PLATINUM in the U.S. by the RIAA. This is Mariah's 7th
PALTINUM single (a record) and her 13th GOLD single. The
other NEW "My All" single with new remixes will be out on
  June 9th!

~ The nine-bedroom mansion built by singer Mariah Carey and
Sony Music executive Tommy Mottola fetched a record $20.5
million when it was sold shortly after the couple's
divorce in March. The buyer was neighbor Nelson Peltz,
chief executive of Triarc Cos., which runs Arby's,
Snapple and Royal Crown Cola. "He's got a wife and six
kids. He needed a few more bedrooms," said Peltz's
lawyer, Neale Albert. The 51-acre estate about 40 miles
north of New York City also includes two swimming pools
and a recording studio. The purchase price was nearly
twice that of any previous residential sale in
Westchester County, according to the state.

~ Mariah Carey and Michael Bolton will each perform in a
tribute to honoree Patti LaBelle. Mariah will sing "If
Only You Knew" and "Over The Rainbow" and Michael will
  perform "You Are My Friend."

~ Mariah taped her new video with Lord Tariq and Peter Gunz
in Queens. It is a remix of "My All". Watch out for it!

~ Mariah's My All/Breakdown debuted at #2 in the U.S,
and currently stands at #2 (now Gold). It debuted strongly
in the Australian Top40.

~ Mariah's management have denied rumours there will be
a Greatest Hits album yet. "She's just
started to spread her wings..." says an insider.

~ Rumours suggest the net rumour that Mariah released a rare
song in Japan called "Alive" are false.
There is no copyright for the song, or proof that it exists.

~ Some Hawaii fans are still baffled about rumours plaguing
Mariah when she toured. Apparently
someone exposed Mariah called her fans "poor"
and ridiculed them, however this was a LIE and 100%
untrue.

~ A Mariah fan from Tasmania shared that there is
a possibility Sony is releasing "The Roof" as a
single in Australia , July 1998. This is unconfirmed.

~ Mariah will be appearing as an award winner in the
World Music Awards this month! Congratulations
Mariah! She will perform 2 songs.

~ Rumours Mariah is releasing an EP album in 1999
featuring a single with Brandy named "Through The
Night" are 100% false.

ALBUM REVIEW: BUTTERFLY

[Honey]

Puff Daddy lends a helping hand with rap artists Mase
and The Lox in Mariah's first major venture into
hip hop/R&B. This is rythm laced pop at it's best.
****

[Butterfly]

A sad, powerful ballad with the immense beauty of
Mariah's voice. Beautiful lyrics, Mariah has never
sounded so good. Soft verses that break into a moving,
loud chorus. This is a classic.
****

[My All] Another beautiful ballad that lets Mariah's
power shine through. A latin sounding song that is
trully stunning.
****

[The Roof] This is one of Mariah's gems on her latest
album. Her move into more urban influenced
music seems a fine move with this smooth R&B track that
shows Mariah's got every right to be in the
R&B scene. This is great stuff. Co-produced with
Trackmasters, who also produced Allure's debut
album.
****

[Fourth Of July] Moving back into the Daydream days,
this is in same style as Underneath The Stars,
and was the first song written for the album. It's got that
dreamy feeling, but a new warm and poppy
feeling that Mariah's known for.
** 1/2

[Breakdown] Another catchy R&B tune with guest
artists Bone Thugs N Harmony, it doesn't have the
catchy smoothness of The Roof, yet it takes on other qualities
of it's own. Mariah and the Thugs sound
great together, and the lyrics are very good.
****

[Babydoll] A different sounding Mariah, a transition
of urban influenced pop with a catchy chorus. Not
her best effort, but not her worst. **

[Close My Eyes] Raw, touching lyrics make this ballad
something extra special. You can tell Mariah
was writing about herself in this song, and it becomes a
really unique and sweet song.
****

[Whenever You Call] Another ballad, a very powerful one
that Mariah described as much like Hero,
proves that Mariah hasn't fully moved into the R&B scene-
she'll always have her immensely beautiful
songs like this one to fall back on.
****

[Fly Away] A techno/dance routine that doesn't polish
off aswell as Daydream Interlude (from
"Daydream"), but still does show Mariah can get the feet
tapping as well.
 **

[The Beautiful Ones] Dru Hill joins Mariah on The
Beautiful Ones, a cover of Mariah's favourite Prince
song. Both sound great together, and the song her
longest one ever, going for nearly seven minutes) is
that great blend of R&B and pop, that really shows
how Mariah has expanded since the days of Vision
Of Love and Emotions.
****

[Outside] Mariah has always saved her most personal
lyrics for the final tracks of her albums (The
Wind,Looking In,Everything Fades Away) and they're
always some of her most beautiful lyrics. Well,
Outside is somewhat not in the same league as say
Looking In, but it does have touching lyrics and is
powerful- the problem is, fans are always stopping
this song half way through so they can listen from
Track 1 again!

*** CHARTING ***

Mariah Carey's album "Butterfly" has dropped on the
U.S Billboard charts, and her new
single "My All/Breakdown" has been released there-
now #2.In Australia, Carey's
single "Breakdown" sits at #40, and her album (which
has gone platinum three times here) has dropped
from the Top50.

*** RARE SINGLES ***

Just Let Me Know: A catchy R&B number that's
become a rare Mariah song. Deborah Cox also did a
version of this on her self-titled album. If you want
the lyrics, email me.

Make You Happy: Mariah does the backing vocals on
this track under the fake name HONEY B FLY on
the Men In Black Soundtrack. She also co-produced
and co-wrote.

Alive: This was just a net-rumour. No song has actually
proven to exist.

Let Me Know: An R&B track where Mariah supposably
does a rap solo. However, this song was
supposed to be released as a secret song on the
"Butterfly" album- but wasn't. Rumours suggest it will
be released as a special bonus on an upcoming single.

Slipping Away: Another catchy pop song. Email me if
you would like the lyrics. Co-produced by Dave
Hall, who also worked on Fantasy with Mariah.

Everytime I Close My Eyes: Mariah was a guest artist
on Babyface's album "The Day" and they
recorded this great pop ballad. Mariah does backing
vocals, but she really makes this song special.

*** ALLURE and TREY LORENZ ***

Mariah Carey co-produced, co-wrote and also sang
on both Allure and Trey Lorenz's debut albums. If
you would like any additional information on these
2 albums, feel free to contact me. Their album
reviews will be posted on this site soon.

Allure (Allure,1997): Mariah Carey co-produced Last
Chance, All Cried Out and Head Over Heals. She
did backing vocals on All Cried Out and Head Over
Heals. She wrote the lyrics for Head Over Heals in
one day!

Trey Lorenz (Trey Lorenz,1992): After Emotions,
Mariah worked with Trey on first major album. Trey has
worked with Mariah, doing backing vocals on many
of her albums (Mariah Carey,Emotions,Butterfly).
Mariah co-produced Always In Love and Someone
To Hold with Walter Afanasieff and Trey Lorenz. She
also lent her voice on the following tracks: Someone
To Hold, Photograph Of Mary, Just To Be Close To
You and How Can I Say Goodbye.
Trey has a new album out in 1998, it is possible
Mariah will appear.

ALL U WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT "DAYDREAM"

* New York Times (1/6/96, p.C16) - Included on Stephen Holden's list of the Top 10 Albums of `95 - "
...her newest album carries choral rhythm-and-blues to new heights of sophistication..." *

- Released October 3rd, 1995

Tracks:
1. Fantasy
2. Underneath the Stars
3. One Sweet Day
4. Open Arms
5. Always Be My Baby
6.I am Free
7. When I Saw You
8. Long Ago
9. Melt Away
10. Forever
11. Daydream Interlude (Fantasy
Sweet Dub Mix)
12. Looking In

Daydream was released on Oct. 3, 1995. Since, it has sold 9 million copies, and it has three #1
singles. "Fantasy" debuted at #1, which made Mariah the only female artist in history to accomplish
that feat. Then she did it again with "One Sweet Day", which was the deut with Boyz II Men, that spent
a record 16 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Mariah is now the only artist in history to have TWO
singles debut at #1, which gave her a grand total of ten #1's (the Beatles only had 20 #1's). And if that
wasn't enough, her third single, "Always Be My Baby" went to #1, which gave her 11. "Honey" gave
Mariah her 12th #1 hit.

Mariah also decided to give directing her own music videos a try, and so came both "Fantasy" videos
and both "Always Be My Baby" videos. (And later, "Honey", "Butterfly" and "Breakdown").

Her other singles were Open Arms (released overseas) and Forever (which is the only single to get
100% airplay on adult contemporary stations).

* Entertainment Weekly (10/13/95, p.76) - "...it's easily the best collection Carey has put out since her
self-titled 1990 debut, the album DAYDREAM most resembles in its emphasis on R&B grooves..." *

DAYDREAM was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Album.
"One Sweet Day" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals;
"Fantasy" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; and "Always Be My Baby" was
nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. On DAYDREAM, Mariah Carey's singing expands
the panorama of its emotional release--her voice, having been a strictly powerful pure instrument, now
taking on the thespian strategies of great vocalists. She has added subtle understatement to her bag of
tricks. On the hit single "Fantasy," a groovin' piece of soulful pop based on a sample of the Tom Tom
Club's "Genius Of Love," the chorus layers generous helpings of her voice. But rather than featuring the
high-pitched lead she's famous for, the vocal parts reflect off each other in penetrating harmony. When
she gets to cooing the key "I'm in heaven..." refrain as the fade-out hook, Carey's voice carries an
enticing faux-innocence to match any of Madonna's good girl/bad girl come-ons. There is also her cover
of Journey's "Open Arms," on which the a capella opening drifts into the stardust sound effects and the
electric piano accompaniment, and the singer pours herself into a striking, minor- key declaration.

There's also a more obvious modern R&B sheen to DAYDREAM than any of Carey's previous work.
"One Sweet Day," her collaboration with Boyz II Men, sways with the sugary gospel cum synth-soul
feel of the Philadelphia quartet's grandest romantic ballads. "Always Be My Baby," co-produced by
Carey and Jermaine Dupri, expresses the simple, catchy melodic poise of the R&B girl- groups of the
late 1950's and early '60s. And a Carey album wouldn't be complete without a track that rushes the
listener onto the dance-floor. DAYDREAM'S nominee is David Morales' rolling "Daydream Interlude
(Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix)" which explodes from a duet between Carey's vocal runs and a minimal
keyboard part, into a house groove spurred on by tinklingly funky piano licks.

*** TIME Magazine September 25, 1995 Volume 146, No. 13 POP'S PRINCESS GROWS UP Mariah
Carey, creator of slick, sugary hits, reveals a more soulful side onher refreshingly understated new
album BY CHRISTOPHER JOHN FARLEY ***

If only Mariah Carey's music had the drama of her life. Her songs are often sugary and
artificial--Nutrasweet soul. But her life has passion and conflict. Carey's mother is white, her father is
black, and she is constantly prodded by skin-color busybodies to define her racial identity. Raised on
Long Island, Carey grew up so financially strapped that she and her divorced mother sometimes had to
move in with friends. Last year, in a revelation pursued aggressively by the tabloids, it came out that
Carey's sister is HIV-positive and, according to some reports, that Carey's mother had taken the sister's
son away from her. But through all this, Carey has prospered. Now she's so rich she's not sure how
many rooms there are in her mansion in New York's suburban Westchester County. In 1993 she
married her boss, Tommy Mottola, president of Sony Music Entertainment (which owns her label,
Columbia). In the past six years, she's sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. Still, given the
vagaries of her life, it's always been odd and a little sad that Carey's music has remained so tidy and
predictable. Where is her life in her work. Well, one answer is she hasn't lived that long. At 25, she is
still maturing as a performer, and still bubbling with youthful enthusiasm and ambition. "I've always been
100% driven to do this," she says of stardom. "Every minute of my life." But while she yearns for
respect from critics, she also harbors the sometimes contradictory desire for blockbuster commercial
success. One of the things that inspires her, she says, is "never wanting to have that feeling again of
instability and that the rug could be pulled out from under me, because that's how I've always felt."
Carey's eponymous 1990 debut album brimmed with soulful promise, but her follow-up efforts, Emotions
(1991) and Music Box (1993), while huge sellers, seemed strained and mechanical, sort of like playing
an Aretha Franklin record through the speakers of a Macintosh computer. " went into this phase of
recording, recording, recording and doing it really fast," Carey concedes. On her forthcoming CD,
Daydream, which will arrive in stores the first week of October, Carey says she has been more faithful
to her muse: "This time I had more time and I focused more on what I wanted to do." It shows.
Daydream is a refreshingly understated piece of work and her best album yet. Her vocals are strong and
serenely passionate. Her lyrics (she co-writes nearly all her songs) are smarter, and her rhymes more
artful and flowing: "As we drift ed to another place in time/ And the feeling was so heady and sublime."
The music too has improved. Gone are the crashing synthesizer sounds and the overwhelming
orchestrations. The songs on Daydream are restrained, such as the cool, blissfully nosta lgic
Underneath the Stars and the subdued, romantic Melt Away. And on the CD's final track, the stark
Looking In, Carey gives us more of a glimpse behind her cheery facade than she ever has: "She wades
in insecurity/ And hides herself inside of me." In person, though, Carey is all smiles and adolescent
mannerisms. Her conversation is sprinkled with vague, teeny-bopperish adjectives: bad things are
"weird"; good things are "real." Ol' Dirty Bastard--a hard- core rapper who appear s on a remix of her
new single, Fantasy --is "real, the most real you can get." Her sister's troubles, she says in response
to a question, are "weird." Later she is more forthcoming, though not especially enlightening: "I haven't
spoken to her in a long time, but I hope she's [well]," she says. "People don't realize we're all human
beings, and when they take your personal nightmares and make them into public ones, it's very difficult.
But everything seems to have worked i tself out." Carey is equally guarded about her well-publicized
marriage to record exec Mottola--except to suggest that there is something of a generation gap in their
musical tastes. Mottola, 45, would rather she record soft, palatable ballads, she says; Carey favors
songs that are "urban and younger." But not to worry: "As far as music goes, we're pretty much in
synch," she asserts. "We have a great relationship, and like anyone, we have to work things through."
Carey is more animated on the subject of race. She complains that the press and the public seem
"obsessed" with her racial identity. "I view myself as a human being," she says with a sigh. "My father's
Venezuelan and black, my mother's Irish, and I consider myself to be a combination of all those things.
To say I'm only [one or the other] would be negating the other things that I am." Although Carey likes to
champion her multicultural heritage in conversation, she often fails to do so through her music, which,
up to now, has been mostly bland and generic. Whether there are more colors in Carey's musical
palette is still undetermined. But the classy Daydream might just be her first step toward a more
fulfilling, multihued musical future. ---Copyright 1995 Time Inc. All rights reserved.---

WHAT'S MARIAH'S NEW SINGLE!?

Well, "My All" has been released and is already catching many's attention - and the question is: what's
her next single going to be?

In America, Mariah has released Honey and My All/ Breakdown, which also includes The Roof. This
was a bizarre move- having 3 great tracks on the one single... but get ready to see this sell through the
roof, it's set to be huge. So rumours suggest that the Butterfly single will be released in America, as it
hasn't been in stores yet in the U.S. There's also rumours that Close My Eyes is going to be a single in
Australia- so expect that to follow in America.

Rumours also suggest The Roof will be spawned as a single in Australia later in the year.

Madonna has recently sported a black-eye, and rumours are Mariah slammed her... NOT TRUE!
Apparently Mariah is dating Madonna's ex and father of Mad's child, but this is unconfirmed. But
Madonna got the black eye from playing around with her kid. So don't believe rumours.
