"Beatles Anthology Trilogy? ;-)....
Meanwhile, in another extraordinary interview - with musician and TV presenter Jools Holland - Sir Paul also poured out his love for his wife. The interview was videotaped and is likely to be shown on television soon, but it has not been decided where. Holland carried out the interview because Sir Paul met him and spoke to him at length for the Beatles Anthology trilogy

Paul McCartney Wrapping Up New Third Classical Set; tentatively titled "Working Classical" Sir Paul McCartney is completing his third album for EMI Classics, likely for release late next year. Billboard Bulletin reports that the disc, tentatively titled "Working Classical," will feature McCartney's first foray into chamber music, including a string quartet titled "Inebriation" and a piece for four horns dubbed "Stately Horn." Also featured are two pieces for small orchestra, "A Leaf" and "Spiral." The performers are the Brodsky Quartet, the Michael Thompson Horn Quartet, and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Lawrence Foster. According to EMI Classics chief producer John Fraser -- who was behind the board for McCartney's hit discs "Standing Stone" and "Liverpool Oratorio" -- the former Beatle is getting better all the time in classical terms. "Paul really has become much more sophisticated with this sort of composition at a very quick pace," he says, "and, as always, his musical instincts are impeccable.

PETA'S GUIDE TO LETTER
WRITING
Here's the text of Paul's letter:
Dr. J. Michael Bishop Chancellor University of California, San Francisco 513 Parnassus Avenue, Room S126 San Francisco Ca 94143
Dear Chancellor Bishop
News of the proposed ear blast tests scheduled to take place at your university has reached me here in the UK. As a committed animal rights campaigner and longtime supporter of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), I most strongly object to these cruel tests. In a technologically sophisticated world and one in which we are supposed to be sufficiently aware of the nature and needs of the other species to respect them, there can be no excuse for inflicting such misery on these intelligent, feeling beings. That the monkeys may be anesthetized before they awake to find themselves baffingly deaf, is no consolation.
As I am sure you know, my wife, Linda, was a staunch supporter of PETA's campaign to stop unnecessary suffering in laboratories, and would have been appalled to hear of these grotesque and crude tests. In her name, and that of all compassionate people, I ask you and the experimenters at the University to recognize that there are far better ways to gather knowledge than by torturing animals.
Please assure me that these deafness experiments on animals will not proceed.
Yours sincerely, Sir Paul McCartney
Here's the text of PETA's press release: For Immediate Release July 21, 1998
San Francisco -- Sir Paul McCartney is raising his voice--not in song, but in protest--over the University of California's plans to blow out monkeys' eardrums in a bizarre experiment replicating the hearing loss caused by loud rock concerts. "I most strongly object to these cruel tests," writes McCartney in a letter to UCSF Chancellor J. Michael Bishop. "There can be no excuse for inflicting such misery on these intelligent, feeling beings. As I am sure you know, my wife, Linda, was a staunch supporter of PETA's campaign to stop unnecessary suffering in laboratories and would have been appalled to hear of these grotesque and crude tests."
The proposed experiment consists of several four-hour sessions during which squirrel monkeys will be exposed to loudspeakers blaring noise at a level higher than that of jet engines on takeoff.
The research protocol has been criticized by many scientists, including Bette Lazzaro, M.D., assistant professor of pathology at the Medical College of Wisconsin, who wrote, "Frankly, I am amazed that this project has received approval for funding. I would say there is a high probability of disregard for animal welfare here, as well as for the wasting of research funds."
Paul learned of the proposed tests from PETA, after the owner of San Francisco Audio refused to sell high-pitched speakers to the experimenters and then blew the whistle.

THE Gold Coast boating fraternity is rife with rumours that Sir Paul McCartney is holed up on a luxury motor yacht in the Southport Broadwater. But if the former Beatle is in town, he's keeping a low profile, sticking to the floating glamour of Chamar, the 46th largest pleasure craft in the world. The Chamar has been moored at the Southport Yacht Club for the past two months, sending the club's rumour mill into overdrive. "He came in the Monday after Indy and went straight out to that boat," is one theory. "He doesn't want anyone to know he's here, that's what everybody thinks," one yachtie said with confidence. "But it's probably the worst-kept secret in town." But Chamar's skipper Stephen White said the craft was avoiding tropical cyclones. "This is as good a spot as any we will find for that," he said. "We are just waiting for word on our next destination."
