Welcome to Aomori Prefecture !

Aomori is the northernmost prefecture on the main island of Honshu, and is the same latitude as New York, and Rome. Due to its northern location, the summers are temperate and comfortable. On the other hand, the winters are cold and there is heavy snowfall.
I lived in its capital, Aomori City, on business for half only a year. Each season brings much pleasure to me. Therefore, may I introduce my favorite spots to you.

Aomori City
This picture is a part of Aomori City facing Mutsu Bay, which is famous as a home of the scallop, known as "King of Shellfish". You can see the distinctive triangular shaped building, the Prefectural Center for tourism and products, known as ASPAM. The revolving sky-restaurant provides a beautiful view of Aomori and its harbor.
Aomori Nebuta Festival
Aomori City is famous for its Nebuta Festibal. It is one of the most exciting events there. At nighttime on August from 2 to 7, the streets are lit up with many huge illuminated floats called "Nebuta" every summer. We can take part in Nebuta Festival as Haneto Dancers. This experience will be never forgotten.

The Hakkoda Mountains
There is the range of mountains, known as "Hakkoda-san", south of Aomori City. We can see alpine plants in the undisturbed marshlands in the mountains. The autumn leaves around the marshlands are especially beautiful. We can enjoy hiking there easily by taking a ropeway.
Lake Towada
Lake Towada, which is located on the border between Aomori and Akita Prefecture, is particularly famous as a part of the lakeside's marvelous autumn colors. We can enjoy hiking both around the lake and in the Oirase George. There is a small river which flows over mossy rocks and tree roots. The season of fresh green is as beautiful and crowded as one of red leaves there

Hirosaki Castle
Hirosaki Castle stands today in the heart of Hirosaki Park. This castle tower was replaced by the three-storied one, after it had been destroyed by fire in the age of Edo.
This park, which looks like a picture of traditional Japan, is especially famous as a spot for viewing cherry blossoms from late April to early May. There are about 5 thousands of cherry trees there. You had better go to see cherry blossoms in the evening there.
