Kichijoji

It is said there are three `joji" areas along on JR Chuo Line in West Tokyo. This page is dedicated to Kichijoji, an attractive area perhaps 30 minutes west of Tokyo Station.

These areas are Koenji,Kichijoji and Kokubunji stations. The Kichijoji area, is the area most fun to walk around and best place to relax on the Chuo Line.
Inokashira Park,an oasis in the center of the city of Musashino, has some public establishmentsincluding a zoological garden and Inokashira Natural Cultural Park. It is noted for its broad Inokashira pond, where many ducks swim happily.

You can enjoy riding boats for hire on the pond or wandering in the groves along the pond. You can also see street vendors and stree performers on the avenue leading to the northern entrance to the park.

These vendors display crafts, ethnic articles, and accessories for young people. Sometimes they are busy making handicrafts. Here, a street performer is playing his guitar.

Cinema Complex

In Japan, the number of movie theaters has been dwindling for a long time over the years, and the theaters in Kichijoji and the movie production industry in general has suffered as well. The theaters have survived only because of the die-hard movie fans who live there .In recent years, however, a new type of theater has begun to recover Japan's lost movie audience: the cinema complex.Theater attendance is now on the rise again, and this includes the audience at Kichijoji's new cinema complex.

Minibus

A colorful and inexpensive minibus called the "Mu-Bus" recently began service and has become very popular. The convenient bus leaves from Kichijoji Station and snakes around town through shopping and residential areas, even farmers' fields, before finally returning to the station.
