Mt. Fuji


Mt.Fuji,which is 3,776 meters high,is the highest and the most beautiful mountain in Japan. The Japanese have admired Mt.Fuji for its graceful shape and spiritual basis since ancient times. Here are 5 photographs taken from several view points and introduce some sightseeing around Mt. Fuji area. Mt. Fuji is located between Yamanashi and Shizuoka Prefecture. So it takes about 4 hours 30 minutes from Narita Airport to the Fifth Level of Mt.Fuji by train and bus.

The spectacular view of Mt.Fuji from Lake Kawaguchi is one of symbols of Japanese beauty. the lake lies at the center of "Fujigoko", or the five lakes around the northern foot of Mt.Fuji. We can enjoy boating, yachting, windsurfing, fishing, and cycling along the lake shore throughout the year because of the extensive sightseeing facilities.

The fifth level (2,400 meters high)is easily accessible by car. There is a bus service as far as the level. As the mountain is covered with snow aove the level, the opening day for climber is July 1. Many people visit the summit in July and August.

The highway is the main rought from Tokyo to Yamanashi Prefecture. There is often heavy traffic congestion on holidays. We can sometimes see a hanging lampshade cloud poised to descend on Mt. Fuji when powerful winds blow toward a mountain and the clouds are forced upward.

Lake Motosu lies in a westward direction of lake Kawaguchi. The motif of Mt. Fuji and the lake on the five- thousand yen bill is a view from Lake Motosu. This lake is calmer than Lake Kawaguchi. As the water temperature of Lake Motosu never gets cold, the lake dose not freeze in winter.

Here is a view from Koyodai, or the terrace near Lake Saiko.
The terrace, which lies along a hiking course, is one of famous view points of Mt.Fuji. We can see Mt. Fuji beyond dense forest called "Jukai"from an observayory of Koyodai if it is cloudless. Lake Saiko, which lies between Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Motosu, is more quiet lake surrounded by dense forest.
