Where did Aromatherapy come from? A French cosmetic chemist, Rene'-Maurice Gattefosse, while working in his laboratory in the arly 1920s, accidentally burned his hand and immediately plunged it into the nearest cold liquid - a container of lavender oil. The pain instantly lessened, and the usual inflammation and blistering were greatly reduced. In addition, the burn healed very quickly and with no scar tissue. Gattefosse devoted the rest of his life to the study of the healing essences, and coined the modern term aromatherapy ("aromath'erapie" in French) in 1928.
