Del attended Buchanan Elementary School for seven years, Garfield Junior High for three years, Hamilton High for three years...Miami Univeristy for three days.

He began playing drums in the sixth grade in school band and stayed with it until he graduated from high school in 1986. While in junior high, Del had a rock band called Nevermore. Nevermore was allowed to play in the school auditorium for their classmates. They also had a big show at the VFW Hall in Hamilton. They sold Nevermore hats and pictures.
