Paramount Theater
Rutland, Vermont

Review by William Bolton

The southwestern part of Vermont has long been starved of major musical entertainment. Sure it's not a bad drive (depending on the weather ) to Albany, New York or even Northampton, Massachusetts to see a good show, but wouldn't it be nice to get some big name entertainment here in Vermont?
Well thanks to the hard work of a team of dedicated people led by executive director Don Hirsh, the once given-up-for-dead Paramount Theater on Center street in Rutland has been restored to it's former grandeur and is now the "roadhouse" home of wonderful concert and theatrical play series.
The experience of seeing a show at this place is nothing short of magical. Even if you were not "into" the program presented on any given night, the ambiance of the theater itself is worth both the trip and price of admission (which also is very, very reasonable).
Also included in this "total package" is the most wonderful service you could imagine. The theater is staffed by obviously tremendously caring people who will go out of their way to ensure that you have a great time. I even saw the very nice lady from the ticket office running around helping a group of patrons swap seats with another group to ensure that everyone had the seat most appropriate to their needs (imagine that!)
The history of this place and the story of it's rebirth can be found by going to their website. Read it, it's fascinating!!
I can't wait to cover another event at the Paramount. The next one listed that fits into our magazine is blue grass legend Ricky Skaggs in May of 2001. I know that seems far away, but tickets are already on sale so hurry!!!!!
