Before sleep, it is good for the spiritual life to kneel down and pray at least a short night prayer. Make the Sign of the Cross, invoking the Holy Trinity - "In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost." Examine your conscience and make an act of perfect contrition. Then, at your discretion, pray any one or all of the following prayers.

 Prayer of Praise

Blessed be the holy and undivided Trinity, now and forevermore. Amen.

Prayer of Adoration, Thanksgiving and Contrition

O almighty and eternal God, in the presence of Thy divine Majesty, I humbly adore Thee and thank Thee for all Thy blessings. Grant me the grace to know how I have offended Thee, and to be truly sorry for my sins.

Prayer for Daily Neglects

(There is a pious story that soon after the death of a certain Poor Clare nun, she appeared to her Mother Superior - who was praying for her soul - and made the following revelation: " I went straight to heaven because I paid all my debts by virtue of this prayer (below)." Please note that this prayer is not meant to take the place of making a sincere Confession. It is meant only as a prayer to foster true contrition and reparation.)

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Sacred Heart of Jesus, with al its love, all its sufferings and all its merits.

To expiate all the sins I have committed this day and during all my life.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

To purify the good I have done poorly this day and during all my life.

Glory be, etc.

To supply for the good I ought to have done, and that I have neglected this day and all my life.

Glory be, etc.

Daily Prayer of the Church

Visit our dwelling, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and drive far from it all snares of the enemy; let Thy holy angels abide therein to preserve us in p eace, and may Thy blessing remain with us always, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

(Offer to God your night's rest, every beat of your heart and every breath you take. This good intention will make even these unconscious acts full of merit. Pray one "Hail Mary."

Our Lord revealed to St. Josefa Menendez, "During the night, you will rest in My Heart. My Heart will listen to the beats of yours, which will be so many acts of love and desire. Thus even while you are sleeping, you will bring back to Me souls who offend Me. Ask forgiveness for the whole world, especially for those that know Me and yet sin. Offer yourself in reparation." Below is the resulting prayer.)

Eternal Father, I desire to rest in Your Heart this night. I make the intention of offering to Thee every beat of my heart, joining to them as many acts of love and desire. I pray that even while I am asleep, I will bring back to Thee the souls that offend Thee. I ask forgiveness for the whole world, especially for those who know You and yet sin. I offer Thee my every breath and heart beat as a prayer of reparation. Amen.
