May 30th is set aside in the United States every year to remember the war dead and Monday is a holiday to observe this. Webster says that a memorial is that which keeps remembrance of an event or about a people alive. People are tied up in so many new things that it is easy to for get the past. Many people will also forget people and things that have been done for them. God calls on us to remember just like our country calls on us to remember. 1. REMEMBER NOW THY CREATOR. (Ecc. 12:1). Youth are told to remember the Creator in the days of their youth. What a great admonition. We can be caught up in pleasure, cares, and riches of this world and forget God. Israel of old was told, "Beware lest thou forget the Lord thy God, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage." (Deut. 6:12). Israel had the tendency to forget the Lord and the benefits which He gave them. "And the children of Israel remembered not the Lord their God. who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side." (Judges 8:34). That is true of so many people of our day. They take no time to learn the will of the Lord, to obey the Lord, nor to worship the Lord. As Amos said of Judah, They put far away the evil day and cause the seat of violence to come near (Amos 6:1-5). We need to remember God so that God will remember us in the final day. If we don't confess Him he will not confess us (Mat. 10:33). "I know you not" the Lord will say to those who let the light of remembrance go out. (Mat. 25:12). 2. JESUS WANTS US TO REMEMBER HIM. "And he took bread and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you." (Lk. 22:19,20). Every Christian needs to partake of this memorial feast every first day of the week (Acts 20:7). We are told not to forsake the assembly (Heb. 10:25) and one of the main reasons is to remember the death of Christ by partaking of the Supper. We are in need of a memorial day every Sunday. 3. ERRING CHRISTIANS NEED TO REMEMBER. The church at Ephesus had lost their first love. They were told, "Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent."(Rev. 2:5). To remove the candlestick would be to remove them from the fellowship of the Lord because he stood in the midst of the candlesticks which represented the churches of Asia (Rev. 1:13-20) The church at Sardis had died spiritually and they were told, "Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee." (Rev. 3:3). Repent, confess sins, and pray if you have sinned after becoming a Christian. (Acts 8:22-24; James 5:16; I John 1:9 Please remember your duties and do them. 4. REMEMBER THAT THERE HAS BEEN AN APOSTASY FROM THE TRUTH. In Acts 20:31 Paul said he had warned the Ephesians for three years about this. Timothy was to put the brethren in remembrance of this (I Tim. 4:6). In 2 Thessalonians 2 Paul told of a falling away from the faith. We should remember that the cause of the falling away was that men did not want to endure sound doctrine but they heaped themselves teachers to tickle their itching ears. (Read 2 Timothy 4:2-4). This should cause all people to remember the necessity of sticking to the Bible doctrine and not listen to false teachers. 5. REMEMBER THAT IF YOU WILL OBEY THE LORD HE WILL NOT REMEMBER YOUR SINS AGAINST YOU (Hebrews 8:6-13).To enter this covenant we have to have His law in our minds and know him. This is done by believing, repenting, confessing Christ and being baptized. (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38; 8:36-38). 6. REMEMBER THAT CHRIST IS COMING AGAIN and that he will burn this world up (2 Peter 3:1-12). We need to be living a holy and godly life to be ready for Christ when he returns to raise the dead and burn this world. KEEP ALL THESE THINGS IN REMEMBRANCE.
