We teach cultural dances at the Filipino School and perform at various religious and cultural events. Click here to see the Tinikling Dance. Recently, we have acquired a new Filipino dance teacher, Meilani Rivera (from San Diego's Pasacat), and we recently performed the Pandango sa Ilaw.

The Filipino School is celebrating its 10th year of existence this March 2004. We will hold a special celebration when we have our annual anniversary mass in September 2004. We held the school's 5 Year Celebration on June 18, 1999. We were honored to have in attendance, Maryland State Senator Jean W. Roesser. I received a Maryland State Senate Resolution #565 in recognition of our 5 years of education. (Click here to see the Resolution.) The Filipino School's 5 Year Anniversary was also recognized by Ambassador Raul Rabe and the Philippine Embassy on Rizal Day, June 20, 1999.

We are a non-profit volunteer organization that teaches Filipino language (Tagalog), culture, music, art and dancing (Filipino and Polynesian). Click here to see a Filipino Dance, Polka Sala, with our youngest students!

Our Flores de Mayo is held in May every year. We start with the rosary in the Historic Church at 2pm. This is followed by the Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan Procession of angels, saints and the Virgin Mary Statue. The mass is followed by a pot luck reception with a dance program by the Filipino School of St. Rose of Lima.

Directors/Teacher Information:

Former Dance Teachers, Meilani and Jay along with their son, Jason, were a wonderful addition to our school, joining us a little over a year ago. Click here to see Meilani and her husband, Jay, at the head of the Flores de Mayo procession on May 16th.We are always looking for more volunteer teachers and parents. Please contact me by email if you would like to offer your assistance as it will be more desperately needed. This coming school year (2009-2010) we are fortunate to have two new teachers that Marie-Tess Fitzpatrick has obtained as the Tagalog teachers of our students. We have Mary Anne Fletemeyer and Lorna Pardo as Cultural Teachers (including Tagalog Prayers) and Cezarina Alzona and Matthew Aninzo as dance teachers. Marie and Edrie Ortega will teach dance as their schedule permits. Our previous dance teacher, Louie Ortega, did an excellent job as the teacher of our teen and young adult classes. Click here to see Louie carrying the Flag at the Flores de Mayo Procession

We are recruiting more talent for our Filipino School and plan to really accomplish more than we have in this past year. You can also see how active the three teachers, Cho, Marie-Tess and Cezarina are in helping with performances at fundraisers for the school.
