Steele Point

Named after one of the joint Secretaries to the Treasury in England in Governor Phillip's time and is often wrongly spelled 'Steel'. It is sometimes called Shark Point. It contains a battery, comprising 2 gunpits with associated magazines etc, built in 1871 originally housing 68 pounder  Muzzle Loaders (ML's) to 1894 then replaced by 5 inch Breech Loaders, removed around 1907.
