COMMUNITY AWARENESS MEETING

July 25, 2001

The meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Tim Burke. Attending the meeting were approximately 40 residents, Community Manager - Dave Bosek, Security Coordinator - Tim Burke, Office Personnel - Catrina Sanchez and Rachel Pendleton and Dave Lundell from the Grounds Operations Department.

Our guest speaker for this meeting was Lt. Leo Malise from the Clinton Township Police Department. This meeting was designed to be for the youth of this community but only a handful of kids were present. Questions were taken from those attending the meeting and there were handouts for the kids, with information about drug and alcohol abuse, coloring books, pencils, rulers, etc.

The curfew laws for this community are: 12 and under - 10:00 pm. and 12 through 16 - 12:00 a.m. All calls that come into the police department are handled in order of importance and while the department is severely understaffed, these calls are all responded to. Some of the problems between the kids do not require a police call, such as kids of similar ages fighting, etc. It was suggested that the parents of the offending child be told and if it is a consistant problem, the office may become involved and mediators may be called in to settle any problems. The management has a zero tolerance for theft of bikes and play equipment from each other and if enough incidences occur this could cause the entire family to be evicted. Children using constant foul language or those that continue to cause trouble with in the community are not arrested but they will get a petition from the police instead of a warrant. The problem then goes through the juvenile court system. The office needs to be aware of these problems so make sure they do not continue.

Children are not allowed to use others yards as short cuts. This rule applies to adults also.

The speed limit for Clinton Township is 25 mph therefore the police will not ticket those going over the 15 mph posted speeds within this community. Children need to be reminded that the stop signs also apply to them while they are riding thier bicycles.

Beware Of Dog signs are not permitted. If your dog bites anyone you will be held responsible so do not leave your pet outside unsupervised. Stray cats are also a problem but animal control will not respond to these calls. The offending cat needs to be trapped and transferred to animal control. There are several people living in our area that will perform this service. Contact the office for more information.

The playground and basketball courts are closed at dusk. New signs are being posted.

Everyone was given raffle tickets and 4 of the children received either a $25.00 gift certificate to Star Theatres or a $20.00 gift certificate to Harmony House. 1 ticket was drawn for the adults and the winner received a $50.00 gift certificate for the Macomb Mall.

Thank-you to the Cantells for providing refreshments.

This meeting adjourned at approximately 8:40 p.m.
