Community Awareness Meeting

November 14, 2000

This meeting was called to order by Tim Burke at 7:10 p.m. Present were 18 residents, Community Manager - David Bosek, Grounds Supervisor - Brian Pahel and Lt. Wade from the Clinton Township Police Dept.

Catrina Sanchez, a member of the office personnel, read the minutes from the October meeting.

Lt. Wade was at this meeting to discuss procedures for handling drug raids. The police receive information from informants, anonymous tips and surveilances. When enough information is gathered, search warrants are issued. If it is necessary for police to raid a home for drugs, every precaution is taken to ensure that no harm comes to other residents in a neighborhood. Pictures and seized drug paraphenalia were shown.

In the opinion of Lt. Wade, Silver Springs is a very concerned community and he liked the fact that this community takes a pro-active approach to problems as opposed to waiting until situations occur. He also stated that he does not recieve an abnormal amount of calls from this community as compared to other areas of Clinton Township.

Grounds Supervisor - Brian Pahel discussed heat taping of incoming water lines under your home. The type needed should have an orange plug-in. If you currently have heat tape with a blue plug, this needs to be replaced. They have been known to short out and cause fires. The orange plug heat tape is self regulating and may remain plugged in year round. Check periodically to make sure the pipes are warm. Not maintaining the heat tape will result in pipes bursting when they are frozen. Part Smart is a good place to buy anything you should need for your home. They are located at 23540 Hall Road (south side), east of Groesbeck. Their phone number is 465-5510.

When it is time for the streets to have snow removed, it is very important to make sure cars are not in the way of the snow plows. It is best to clear your driveway after the plow has come through as some snow will unavoidably be left near the bottom of driveways. Please refrain from throwing snow back out into the street when clearing your driveway.

We are advised to not cover the air conditioner units for the winter. Having them covered will cause condensation to build-up with-in the unit which will then cause repair problems. These coverings also provides shelter for unwanted rodents.

The staff was commended for thier handling of Devils Night/Halloween. It was very apparent that the community was well supervised. There were no major problems on these nights. Security was also praised for thier prompt response to problems.

On street parking continues to be a major problem. "No Parking On Any Street At Any Time" signs have now been posted through-out the community. Many violations have been issued in the last few weeks. Repeat offenders receive letters and are required to meet with David Bosek. Constantly ignoring this rule can result in eviction. Because this is private property the police patrols will not ticket cars parked on the street, unless they are in front of a fire hydrant or parked in a handicap parking space.

Children causing problems at the bus stop will be called into the office and parents must come and pick them up. Meetings will be held with either David Bosek or Tim Burke. If problems continue, a 2nd offense will warrant removal of bus priveleges.

Reminder---dogs are not to be left outside for extended periods of time.

Santa Night will be held on Tuesday - December 12 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

A community get-together will take place sometime after Santa Night, instead of the Community Awareness Meeting. Residents will be informed of the date at a later time.

David Bosek will have more information regarding our problems with the water department at the next Community Awareness Meeting.

Thanks to Wanda Ranger and the Cantells for providing refreshments for this meeting.

This meeting adjourned at 8:50 p.m.
