Previously seen on ER fanfiction "Bridge Over Troubled Water" -

Runors fly that Kerry Weaver and Mark Greene are having an affair. Benton
neglects his child, and Jeannie suspects it's because the baby has Down
Syndrome. Doyle catches chicken pox from a patient and she and Carter are
caught by Del Amico in what looks to be a sexual act. Carol and Doug forget
their differences, and their professional life when they are together. Doug
is nearly discovered in Carol's bedroom by her suspicious mother. Greene and
Nina try to put a face on his attacker. Meanwhile, Carter underdoses a
patient, and she is left in the ICU. Doyle and Keaton try to comfort him.

ACT 1

SCENE 1

(Cut to show Carter, Jerry, and Randi at the admitting desk. Carter looks up
when Doyle enters, with evidence of the chicken pox on her face).

Carter
Hey, scarface!

Doyle (looking at him)
You know, you just keep sinking lower and lower on my list.

Carter (squints at the pox)
That looks so painful.

Doyle (glares and whistles in a low voice)
First you desert me in my hour of need...

Carter (to Jerry)
She's dramatizing.

Doyle
Hardly! Where were you when I was too weak to feed myself because of the
pox? And now you remind me of my currently scarred and crater-filled face.

Jerry
You have a deathwish, Carter?

Carter
You never asked me to help, Mag.

Doyle (haughtily)
I assumed you would.

(Jerry and Carter laugh).

Jerry
There's your mistake. Never assume a guy willl think about more than his
stomach and how much to bet that the Bulls win the playoffs next season.

(Jerry and Carter high five).

Carter (shaking his head)
Women.

Doyle (imitates him)
Men.

(Doyle goes to get a chart and steps in front of the computer).

Carter (points to Doyle)
You are in my way.

(Picks her up by the waist and moves her, just as Keaton walks toward the
front desk. She halts suddenly when she sees Maggie with John).

Keaton (uncomfortably)
Hello again, Carter.

Carter (puts Maggie down)
Hi.

Keaton (looking at Maggie, who is oblivious)
Can I talk to you?

Carter
Sure, sure.

(They step to the side).

Keaton (glances at Doyle, confused)
It's okay that you cancelled dinner last night.

Carter
Uh...maybe some other time. I'm going through a lot with the Meredith Grant
case.

Keaton (quickly)
John...that's not the reason you cancelled, is it? I've been out of your
life so long, I don't have a place in it anymore. You've had enough time to
replace me...(She bites her lip and stares at Doyle).

Carter (turns around and realizes she probably thinks he is involved with
Doyle, and is confused).
Okay.

Keaton (reluctantly)
Well, I'm scheduled for surgery wrap up. See you.

Carter
Later.

(Carter walks toward the desk and shrugs, looking at Doyle).

Doyle (teasing)
Rejected again? They should write a book about you.

Carter (kicks her butt)
You know what I love about you, Maggie? You have this ability to brighten my
day.

Doyle (yelps)
OW! Careful, I bruise easy lately! (Her expression darkens). Hey, we need
to talk...seriously.

Carter
Later today? I got three patients on the board.

Doyle
Yeah, see you.

(Fade out).

END SCENE 1

SCENE 2

(Mark Greene is drinking coffee and watching the morning news in the ER
lounge when Doug Ross enters).

Doug (scratching his chin)
What will Dougie have for breakfast this morning?

Mark (turns around)
Mornin'. If we're lucky, we can find where Doyle stashes her frosted
Cheerios. I'm told the box is in this very lounge.

Doug
Leave it to me, Mark. (Seriously). If I were Maggie Doyle, where would I
put the Cheerios?

(Doug looks behind the fridge, and scrunches up his nose at the dirt . He
peeks under the couches, and finally, behind the curtains, where he finds
them).

Mark
A-ha! Gimme those!

Doug
Me first.

(Doug pours himself a bowl and out falls the prize in a wrapped plastic
package. Mark eyes the prize greedily).

Doug (seeing Mark's hungry eyes)
It's all mine.

Mark
A temporary tattoo? You're gonna have to fight for this one, buddy.

Doug
It fell into my bowl. It's mine.

Mark (pouts)
Come on, Doug. You get everything your way lately! Weaver's all goey on you
for that staff meeting you organized this week, and she's mad at me because I
had to reject her from the stroke team again. I think I deserve a break!

Doug (looks thoughtful)
Mmm...no.

Mark (with false righteousness)
Ok, ok. We really should give Doyle that tattoo. They're her Cheerios.
I'll give it to her myself.

Doug (narrows his eyes)
How do I know if you won't keep it for yourself? I have a better idea.
(Presses tattoo to his upper arm). Mom. (He reads proudly). This is so
cool! Well, I'm off to take my nap. (Takes Cheerios).

(Doug bumps into Weaver as he is leaving).

Doug (overly polite)
Why excuse me, Kerry. I am very sorry.

Weaver
It's nothing, Doug. Mark, I have a GOMER in 3, I could use you.

Mark (with a scowl)
I'm on break. Ask Doug.

Weaver
Doug's been on call for 10 hours. Follow me.

Mark (sighs)
Coming!

(Fade out).

END SCENE 2

SCENE 3

(Cut to show Jeannie and Benton talking outside a trauma room).

Jeannie
So how's David?

Benton
Better. Carla took him home two days ago.

Jeannie (nods)
That's good. I knew he'd make it. Are you seeing him?

Benton
Carla is putting up with me at her place for awhile so I can be with him.

(Jeannie looks at him appprovingly. Show Al heading down the hallway).

Al
Jeannie!

Jeannie (smiling)
Hey...what are you doing here?

Al
Oh, I was nearby so I figured I'd stop in and see you.

Jeannie (remembering Benton)
Al...this is Peter Benton, you met him awhile ago, remember? He's a surgeon
here. Peter, this is Al Boulet.

Al
Nice to see you again.

Benton
Mmm-hmm.

(Jeannie's beeper goes off).

Jeannie
I've got to get going...see you two later.

(They watch her go down the hall).

Benton
So you're Jeannie's ex husband?

Al (smiling)
Yeah, I finally convinced her to take me back.

Benton (seriously)
I see. I'm glad you could work through all the problems.

Al
More like my problems.

Benton
Well, Jeannie had her share. I was never much help...

Al
You?

Benton (bewildered)
I thought she told you about our affair. It was a while back, around two
years ago.

Al (distant and upset)
Oh, yeah.

Benton (glances at watch)
Well, I've got to run...nice to meet you...

Al
Yeah.

(Close on Al, looking confused and alone).

END SCENE 3

SCENE 4

(Cut to show the interior of a trauma room. Weaver and Doyle are stabilizing
a middle aged stabbing victim, as Edson watches).

Weaver
Ok, Dr. Doyle, lets get a chest tube in here.

Doyle
Femoral cut down. 50 ASA?

Weaver
You got it.

(Doyle is shaking visibly as she puts in the chest tube).

Weaver
Everything ok?

Doyle
Mmm-hmm. Yeah.

Weaver
Okay, Edson, he's set. Take him to surgery prep.

(Doyle and Weaver take off their gloves as Edson and assistants leave with
the gurney. Doyle suddenly grabs the edge of a steel tray).

Doyle
Oh, God. (She vomits on the floor).

Weaver (grabs Doyle's arm)
It's ok, it's ok. All the blood got to you, huh? Lets get you to the
lounge.

(They walk through the hallway).

Weaver
Maybe you should've taken more sick days. Chicken pox can make you nauseous
for more than a week.

Doyle (weakly)
Yeah.

Weaver
Sit down, get a little rest. Take a deep breath, okay?

Doyle (under her breath)
That better have been the chicken pox.

Weaver
What else could it be? Are you sick? You look a little thinner...

Doyle
I don't know...I...

(Neither of them notice Doug Ross, who has stopped short of entering the
lounge, curious to decode their whispers).

Weaver
You think it's-

Doyle (cuts her off)
I don't know.

Weaver
Have you taken a blood test?

Doyle
Not yet.

Weaver
Do it right away.

Doyle (makes a helpless gesture with her hands)
Yeah, okay.

(Weaver exits and smacks into Doug).

Weaver
Doug, you startled me.

Doug
Sorry. I was just getting a Coke.

(Weaver leaves).

Doug (sitting down)
So, Doyle...

Doyle
Umm...I have an LOL in two, Dr. Ross. Bye.

Doug (shrugs)

(Fade on Doug's face).

"All Things Must Pass"

By Laura and Caroline at Vw Vixen64@aol.com

ACT 2

SCENE 1

(Cut to show Carter bent over ICU patient Merdedith Grant, who is slowly
recovering from her suicide attempt).

Anna (creeps up behind him)
I just heard from Doug Ross that she's going to be fine, Carter. She's going
to live.

Carter (looks a little relieved)
I can't get this off my mind.

Anna
Me neither. We got lucky. No malpractice for Dr. John Carter, huh?

Carter (snaps his head around to face her. He says quietly)
That doesn't matter to me. The lawyers can take it all. I deserve that
much. I know I couldn't take it...if she had died. You understand, don't
you, Dr. Del Amico?

Anna (with a new respect)
Anna, please. And I do understand. Why are you in medicine, Carter?

Carter (with his head hung low)
I...I...watched my brother die...of leukemia. I wanted to make sure that
that would never happen to anyone again, and if I could prevent it, I would.
I wanted to be the hero.

Anna (nods)
That's what it is for everyone. We can't always be that hero, Carter. I
know that's not what you want to hear...(looks at him). But it's the truth.

Anna (continues)
I had a case that taught me the limits. I was an intern, too. You do the
best you can, then sit back and let things pass. That's all we can do.

Carter
Next time my best will be better.

Anna (puts her hand on his shoulder)
I know.

(She leaves, fade on Carter's face, watching Meredith).

END SCENE 1

SCENE 2

(Cut to show Mark, Edson, Doug, and Doyle arguing near the front desk. Enter
Carol).

Mark
Fine! The only mature way to end this is rock paper scissors.

Doug
That's so mature, Mark.

Doyle
I'm okay with it.

Mark
All right. Edson and Doug are against each other. I'm against Doyle.

Edson (annoyed)
You wanna be against Maggie because you know it's easier to beat a girl!

Doug (angry at Mark)
Yeah!

Carol
What are you fighting about now?

Doyle
Exam two.

Edson
She's blonde and she needs suturing. On her THIGH.

Doug (to Edson)
Step aside, little man! She's mine!

Edson
One, two, three.

(Doug has rock, Edson, who has scissors, loses).

Doug (jumping in the air)
Yes!

Mark
Not yet, Doug. One, two three!

(Mark has scissors while Doyle has paper).

Mark (triumphantly)
Scissors cut paper. I win. Now, the final battle...

Doyle
Damn.

Doug
May the best man win.

Mark
I will.

Doug
Oh yeah?

Mark
Yeah! One, two, three!

(Doug wins, he has paper and Mark has rock).

Doug
I present to you, the champion. (He bows).

Edson (whiny)
Not fair.

Doyle
I demand a rematch.

Doug (grabbing chart)
Nope. Catch you later, suckers.

Mark
Doug always wins.

Carol
Don't worry, Mark. I'll keep an eye on him. He won't get too far.

(Fade on Carol's evil smile).

END SCENE 2

SCENE 3

(Show Jeannie enter Doc Magoo's, alone. She scans the room and finds Al,
sitting in a corner booth, staring into his coffee cup).

Jeannie (slides into the seat across from Al, smiling)
Fancy meeting you here.

Al (looks betrayed)
You never told me about your relationship with Peter Benton.

Jeannie (looks suddenly worried)
I'm sorry. I didn't know what to say.

Al
Dammit, Jeannie. I had a right to know.

(Jeannie stares at him, openmouthed).

Al (continues)
All that time, you let me believe the reason our marriage fell apart was
because of my cheating on you. And all the time, you were with him.

Jeannie (distraught)
I couldn't tell you. I couldn't face you. Peter wanted me to come clean
with you

Al
Even if you hadn't told me when we were married, don't you think you should
have said something after we gor back together? Haven't things changed,
Jeannie?

Jeannie
I didn't think it mattered.

Al (leaving)
It does to me.

(Fade on Jeannie, her head in her hands).

END SCENE 3

SCENE 4

(Anna Del Amico peers around the corner of the admitting desk. She sees John
Carter and Maggie Doyle, both unoccupied).

Anna
Hey, I need an intern. I got a fifteen year old found unconcious by a bucket
of chemicals. He'll be here any minute.

(Anna leaves, and Carter and Doyle watch after her, as she rushes out through
the ER doors. They look at each other, finally).

Carter
I'll go. (He looks after Anna).

Doyle
Sounds like a hard case. Maybe one that a second year resident, someone like
myself, should handle.

Carter (laughing)
Nuh-uh. I don't think so! Anna and I work together really well. If you
know what I mean. (Winks).

Doyle
Carter, you pig! If I had a chance to work with her, she'd forget all about
you.

Carter (amused)
You think she likes you?

Doyle
Uh...I dunno...

Carter
Wait, you like her, don't you?

Doyle (defensively)
So?

Carter (not apologetically)
She's not gay. Sorry.

Doyle
How do you know?

Carter (sensibly)
She doesn't give off any of the signals.

Doyle
You couldn't tell I was gay. How can you tell she isn't?

Carter (shyly smiling)
It's the chemistry between us.

Doyle (rolls her eyes)
I'm taking it. I've doen twice as many code cases as you have.

Carter
NO! I-

(Anna and a young intern, Sanders, enter the ER doors with a gurney).

Anna
It's taken care of, guys. (She looks at Carter and Doyle).

(Fade out on Doyle and Carter, standing face to face).

 END SCENE 4

SCENE 5

(Cut to show Doug and Carol hiding in the drug lockout. Carol is sitting on
Doug's lap, feeding him a carton of apple juice).

Doug
Mmm. Apple juice. How old am I, two?

Carol (persistently)
You're my baby. Now, drink it!

(Doug swallows obediently and slips an arm around her waist. He buries his
head in her neck. The carton of apple juice falls on his knees. Carol
kisses him and squirms in his lap).

Doug
Carol?

Carol (absently)
Mmm-hmm?

Doug
You just sat on that apple juice.

(Carol jumps up. There is a wet spot on Doug's pants).

Doug
Dammit...I'm covered with it.

Carol
Oh, well. (Wraps her arms around him).

Doug
Tell you what. The entire third floor curtain area is empty. Let's go up.

Carol
All right.

Doug
I'll carry you, princess.

Carol (laughing)
DOUG!

(Doug swings her into his arms and heads upstairs. Fade out).

ACT 3

SCENE 1

(Cut to show Doug with the patient he fought over with Mark. She is about
25, and Carol is standing jealously in the background).

Doug (looking over patient)
So..Mrs. Chandler,...you need a suture on your thigh?

Veronica (smiling)
It's Miss Chandler. I'm not married.

Doug (grinning, eyes tilted down)
Really... (Doug peers at the cut).

Doug
That's a pretty nasty gash. It'll need eight stitches. Are you allergic to
novicaine?

Veronica
No.

Doug
Ok...tell you what. I'll let you choose what color of thread you want.
We've got pink, blue, black, and green.

(Show Carol roll her eyes).

Veronica
Blue.

Doug
Good choice. In a brief period of my life I was known as Mr. Blue.

(Veronica laughs).

Doug
You've got beautiful eyes.

(Carol snorts. Veronica smiles, half-embarrassed, half pleased).

Carol
So, Doug, what time are you picking me up-

Doug (interrupting)
Carol, don't you have something to do?

Carol
Um, no.

Doug
I think you do. I think...I think I need some gauze. Right now.

Carol
Fine.

(Carol stalks out).

Doug (to Veronica)
So how did this happen?

Veronica
Scraped my leg against a broken fence.

(Doug has the needle poised just above her thigh).

Doug
This won't hurt a bit.

(Close on Doug and Veronica).

END SCENE 1

SCENE 2

(Cut to show Carter sitting in the lounge surrounded by stacks of charts.
 Enter Maggie).

Doyle
Hey.

Carter (absently)
Hey, Maggie.

Doyle
Are you busy?

Carter (sarcastically)
Just a little.

Doyle
Well, can you spare a minute?

Carter (sets down chart)
Well, Maggie, I've got a minute, but just for you. But, I'm setting my watch
for sixty seconds. Make it snappy.

Doyle
Well...uh...you know...how...we-uh-and...well I think...

Carter
Am I supposed to understand this?

Doyle
Well...I think I'm pregnant.

Carter (taken aback)
Whoa...slow down. Are you serious?

Doyle
Do you think I would joke about it?

Carter
Are you sure?

Doyle (wringing her hands)
Not yet...

Carter (sighing)
Well, I suggest you go upstairs and get a blood test right away. There's no
way around this.

Doyle
Yeah, I guess so.

Carter (getting back to work)
Tell me as soon as you know.

Doyle
Wait...John...I don't want anyone to know...shouldn't I get one of those drug
store tests?

Carter (without glancing up)
Yeah. Good idea.

Doyle
But are they accurate?

Carter
I think so.

Doyle
Blood test's better.

Carter
Then get a blood test.

Doyle
But still...I don't...

Carter
Then get a drug store test!

Doyle
Are you sure?

Carter
Maggie, for God's sake, just go and pee on the damn stick and tell me whether
you are or not!

Doyle (annoyed)
Fine!

(Maggie slams the door. Close on Carter, running his hand through his hair).

END SCENE 2

SCENE 3

(Cut to show Mark outside a curtain. We can see the shodows of Doug and
Carol wrapped around each other on the curtain. Mark notices most of their
clothes piled high on the floor and picks them up, and he heads down the
hallway).

(Nina notices Mark).

Nina
Mark...what are you doing?

Mark (glances at clothes)
Um, nothing.

Nina
Doesn't look like nothing. (She sees Doug's identification tag in the heap
of clothes). Why do you have Doug's khaki's?

Mark
He wanted...them washed.

Nina (wrinkling her forehead)
Ok then...are we still on for tonight?

Mark
Yup.

(Mark continues down the hallway and sees the scrub cart).

Mark
This'll be so good.

(Mark dumps Doug's and Carol's clothes onto the scrub cart and pushes it into
the parking lot. Mark, laughing, turns around and goes inside).

(Show the scrub cart, guided by the wind, bump into a Cadillac Seville. It
leaves a nasty scratch. The scrubs go flying).

END SCENE 3

SCENE 4

(Cut to show two shadows against a curtain. They are Carol and Doug).

Mixed voices
Mmm...

(We hear a beeper go off).

Doug
Dammit!

(Doug peeks his head around the curtain).

Doug
Carol? What'd you do with my clothes?

Carol (from behind the curtain)
Threw 'em in the corner.

Doug
They aren't there.

Carol
Huh?

Doug
They're gone!

Carol
Oh, God.

(Doug groans).

Doug
All right, fine!

(Doug rips down two curtains).

Doug
I'm going downstairs.

Carol
In what?

Doug
The curtain. You're coming, too.

Carol
No, I'm not!

Doug
One of us has to.

Carol
That would be you.

Doug
Fine.

(Doug wraps the curtain around his waist).

Doug
Wait here.

Carol
Where would I go?

(Doug slams the door open. He goes down the hallway, Chuny whistles).

Doug (grumpy)
Ha ha ha.

(Anspaugh notices Doug).

Anspaugh
I'll see you in my office at five, Dr. Ross.

Doug
Dammit!

(Doug reaches the front desk).

Randi
Hey, Dr. Ross, lookin' good.

Jerry
I think I'll wear a loincloth to work tomorrow.

Doug
All right. Who took my clothes?

(Mark is standing by the computers, stifling a laugh).

Doug
Mark!

Mark (cracks up)
He he.

Doug
Oh, real mature, Mark. Just because I got the tattoo-

Mark
And the blonde patient-

Doug
You took my clothes? Where are they?

Mark
I threw them out.

Doug
Dammit! Where's the scrub cart?

Mark
I dunno.

Doug
MARK!

Mark (reluctantly)
In the parking lot.

(Doug runs to the parking lot).

(Close on front desk).

ACT 4

SCENE 1

(Cut to show Carter leaning against a wall in a trauma room. Enter Anna).

Anna (playfully)
Hey, Johnny.

(There is a pause).

Anna
You thinking about Meredith?

Carter (wryly)
How did you know?

Anna (sighing)
You looked kind of distant.

Carter
I guess I can expect a call from the lawyers soon.

Anna
Well...actually...I didn't mention anything about your...mistake.

Carter (angry)
Why not?

Anna
I didn't see any point in it.

Carter (moves toward door, agitated)
Where's her chart? I've got to change it.

Anna
I've already handed it in to Mark Greene.

Carter (retreating)
So I can't change anything?

Anna
No.

Carter
Why didn't you tell me?

Anna
I knew you'd want me to tell the truth. You don't need that heat.

Carter
I'm going to talk to Mark.

(He starts to head out).

Anna (grabs Carter by the shoulders)
John, listen to me! You're 26, an intern. There's no point in ruining your
career over this.

Carter (shaking his head)
This isn't about my career. It's about my morals...my ethics. I've covered
for others, for people with no conscience. Like Edson. Dammit, I'm not
going to have anyone cover for me! I am not going to hide from this.

Anna
You're not hiding. I'm not trying to protect you. Just let it go, John.
 It's too late.

(She puts her hands on his shoulders, and hugs him).

Anna
I promise I won't let you off too easy. Will that make you feel better?

(John smiles ruefully).

Anna
That's better. Now, come to the lounge with me. You need a cup of coffee.

Carter (upset)
No, Anna, I can't. I've got to deal with this.

Anna (awkward)
All right...see you later.

(Anna exits. Close on John, showing no signs of getting over his mistake).

END SCENE 1

SCENE 2

(Cut to reveal Carol measuring the blood pressure of young, attractive,
Veronica Chandler).

Veronica (curious)
Is Dr. Ross coming back to treat me?

Carol
I wouldn't know.

Veronica
Umm...is he involved with anyone?

Carol (jealously)
He's in a pretty serious relationship.

Veronica
Really? I love challenge! How can I get him to ask me out?

Carol (seriously)
Well, Dr. Ross really likes it when girls snort when they laugh.

Veronica (suspicious)
Okay. Maybe I'll just bite the bullet and ask him out.

Carol
That could work. Just make sure you use a generic come-on line like "Hey,
baby. Going my way?" He loves that.

Veronica
Oh.

(Doug enters, wearing a pair of pink scrubs, a little small. They were all
he could find in the parking lot. His tattoo is revealed, and he looks
embarrassed).

Veronica (confused, and half disgusted at his appearance)
Dr. Ross?

Doug
Uh, you're all set, Veronica. (He smiles sheepishly).

Veronica (joking)
Nice tattoo. "Mom." That says a lot for you.

Doug
Oh? This? It's a temporary. My friend is paying me to wear it.

Veronica
What's your excuse for those tight scrubs?

(Carol laughs).

Doug (pathetically)
My clothes were stolen.

Veronica
I see. Thank you, Dr. Ross.

Doug
Doug, please.

Veronica
No, thanks. Could you just sign that release form?

(Carol meets Doug's eyes, she's pleased with the way things have turned out).

Doug
Sure.

(Fade out on Doug, bent over the chart).

END SCENE 2

SCENE 3

(Anspaugh pokes his head through the window of the admitting desk).

Anspaugh
Dr. Greene here?

Randi
Uh...yeah hold on. MARK!

Mark (walking toward the desk from the cahirs)
What?

(Randi indicates to Anspaugh with a flip of her head).

Mark
Dr. Anspaugh?

Anspaugh
Douglas Ross let it slip this afternoon that you took the scrub cart out to
the garage?

Mark
Oh, yeah. The scrubs were getting too much moisture. They, uh, needed the
fresh air.

Anspaugh
That "fresh air" pushed the cart into my Seville. There are a few bangs to
prove it.

Mark
Uhh...I had no idea.

Anspaugh
I'm sure you won't mind paying for the repairs, Mark. (Anspaugh smiles).
 I'll mail you the bill.

Mark (put out)
Sure. (Turns around). Randi, where's Doug?

(Fade out).

END SCENE 3

SCENE 4

(Carter is in the suture room, sorting through the Meredith Grant file. He
is clearly shaken by the knowledge that Anna covered for him on this case.
He wears a scowl on his face).

(Doyle enters).

Doyle
Chuny said I'd find you in here.

Carter (whips around, he didn't expect her)
What the hell? God, don't do that!

Doyle
Uh...sorry. Maybe this isn't the best time.

Carter
What made you guess that? Just say whatever you want, then leave me alone.

Doyle (confused)
I don't get you, John? What's wrong with you?

Carter
Everything's great. Now all I need is for you to tell me you took that
pregnancy test. It'll make my day.

Doyle
I did.

Doyle (continuing)
I...uh..really don't know what's going on. I just want you to know that I
don't even really understand this myself, but...I...can't...get you...

Carter (gets up, angrily)
God, Maggie! Are you or not? Say it and get out, okay?! I don't have time
for this heart to heart! Are you or not?!

Doyle (eyes narrowed, her voice quavers and for once she is unnerved)
I'm leaving.

Carter (sitting down)
C'mon, Maggie. I'm sorry, what is it?

(Doyle leaves).

Carter
Dammit.

(Fade out, Carter's head in his hands).
