Who gives this woman to this Man?
(Laura's parents answer)
We do.
Let us pray. Source of all life and love, we
give thanks for the beauty of the world, it's
promise and it's fulfillment, for all that comes
to us bringing a sense of gladness; the way of
knowledge, the joy of love, the joy of faith. We
give thanks also for those things endearig us to
one another: the common experience making us kin,
for the needs we feel as individuals which are
not filled in ourselves but find happy
fulfillment through the outreaching lives of
others. Here for a brief moment in the vast
expanse of time, we are brought together to share
the wonder of the bonds of love. And we have
come to confirm the love already grown strong and
beautiful for James and Laura. From the birth,
the nuture, and the love of different homes, they
have sought and been sought by one another, and
by a higher attraction not their own. They have
come here as two; they will leave as one. May
nothing in life come between them to sever this
sacred bond. May friends and loved ones here
assembled and those in absence remembering them
ever continue to rejoice in the warmth of their
love. Amen
(Robert Zoerheide, amended)
I, James, take you Laura, to be the wife of my
days, to be the mother of my children, to be the
companion of my house. We will keep together
what measure of trouble and sorrow our lives may
bring us, and we will share together our store of
goodness and plenty and love.
I, Laura, take you James, to be the husband of my
days, to be the father of my children, to be the
companion of my house. We will keep together
what measure of trouble and sorrow out lives may
bring us, and we will share together our store of
goodness and plenty and love.
What do you offer as a symbol of your love?
(James and Laura each take
the other's ring and place it on the ring finger
saying:)
With this ring, I thee wed.
(James and Laura will light the
Unity Candle while a song is
played.)
Forasmuch as James and Laura have consented
together before this company and have pledged
their love for each other, I do now with the
authority vested in me by the Universal Life
Church and in conformity with the laws of the
State of Oregon, pronounce James and Laura to be
husband and wife. What has been united here and
now, let no man or woman put asunder.
James and Laura, you may embrace as husband and
wife.
I am pleased to present to you for the first
time,
Mr. and Mrs. James Herr.
