At the foundation of Nintendo, Cartridges can be divided into two different types :-

"Large" cart for NINTENDO ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM

大帶

"Small" cart for FAMILY COMPUTER

細帶

Large carts are suitable for Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in America, Europe ; small carts are usually use for Family computer in Japan, Hong Kong. They can exchange to each other, this mean large cart can use at Family computer and vice versa.

For the design limitation, converter must be added for using small cart at NES. Sometime the metal parts (for transfer data) on cartridge and converter cover with oxide to block the data transfer from cartridge to machine, probably may cause the machine hang. Moreover, this can shorten the life of machine.

When the Disk system launch Hong Kong, the incompatible problem occur in hardware of NES appear reflected by many players. This is the reason of NES cannot act as the leader of game console in Hong Kong.

大帶最主要適用於灰機（美國版任天堂），而細帶則適用於紅白機（日本版任天堂）

，並加入互換功能。用紅白機玩大帶及細帶當然無問題；但用灰機玩細帶則需另外

購買一個轉換器才可。有時當轉換器金屬部分接觸不良，記載在遊戲盒帶上的資料

不能完整地送往遊戲機，死機的情況時常出現。再者會影響主機的壽命，更甚者當

任天堂磁碟系統推出時，發生在灰機上的問題更是愈多愈複離。這便是為何灰機不

能在本港普及的其中原因。
