Truth of Cartridge   盒帶的真相

 

At the beginning of development of Nintendo, cartridge is a only one interface for games. Why DISK SYSTEM required few years later and probably instead of cartridge? I will explain the reason as follows:

在任天堂紅白機開發之初,盒帶是唯一可用的介面(Interface);為何後來要發展磁碟

系統(Disk System),更有取代盒帶之趨勢?以下將為您一一解釋。

It is the main part of cartridge which store information of game. It acts as the director of film that control all instruction. Information cannot be erased.

作以用是儲存遊戲的資料,是盒帶的心臟,亦是最重要的部份,我們可視它為一部電

影的導演,負責一切任務,內部資料一經寫上便不能洗去。

It stores the special instruction must be perform during running the program, includes controller, debug or stop the application by the error occurred.

負責儲存遊戲中特別的指令,例如控制方法;它又可偵測程式有沒有問題,加以修正

或令遊戲中止運行。

是盒帶和遊戲主機的資料傳遞橋樑。

A board having metal printed on surface which like cable and provide electricity to ICs (Integrated Circuit) solder on it.

表面印上一層或數層的導電金屬,功能和電線差不多,負責供電給焊在它表面的集成

電路(Integrated Circuit)。

Due to the different information for each game, ROMs in old cartridge cannot be re-used. Game developers may invest more capital for development of new games. The cost of new game increase by the increase of memory size. DISK SYSTEM can be solve the problem to reduce the cost for develop of new game.

For Roll Playing Game, RPG, game player spend much more time than other types of game, such as shooting and action game. Lithium battery may be built in the cartridge to save the game. This can avoid game player to play this game from beginning each time caused by the suspension of electricity provided. Many game can record the 'actual' time used by install the internal clock inside the cartridge.

由於每款遊戲有不同的資料,而且舊的ROM不能再用,所以遊戲開發廠商要支付極昂貴的製作成

本。如果遊戲的容量稍為增大,成本就更加不堪設想。但是畫面華麗的遊戲通常需要較大的容量。為了這個

嚴重的問題,任天堂便想出磁碟系統來。

對於角式扮演遊戲(Roll playing game, RPG),通常玩者需要很長時間才能完成整個遊戲,有見及

此,此類遊戲的盒帶都加上鋰(Lithium)電池。在主機電源給截斷時,用以儲存遊戲進度。避免玩者要每次

重新開始遊戲。有些盒帶更內置時鐘,計算玩者完成整個遊戲的「現實」時間。
