The Liberal Party of Cyberia
A New Paradigm in Politics
On July 18, Cyberia witnessed a radical change to the political landscape: the Labor Party, the oldest party in existence, and the LibDems, the first left-wing party in Cyberia, merged. The Lab-LibDem merger became the Liberal Party. Armed with a voting bloc as large as the Socialist Party and high-profile party members such as the President, the Liberals are determined to leave a mark on Cyberia, and with a determined Deputy, Justin Finch, they may just do that.
Difference between the PFP and the Liberals is that the Liberals tend to be more comfortable with declaring their left-of-center affiliation. They are also more committed to fiscal conservatism and preventing extremism from taking hold in Cyberia.
Difference with the SP include favoring a safety net to an universal health care proposal. They also favor a more modest minimum wage law, and aren't encouraging worker-owned companies but encouraging regulation of corporate Cyberia.
Similarities with these two parties? They share a strong sense of civil libertarianism, within reason. They don't favor age of consent being 12, like the Communist Workers Party, but they don't favor the social regulation favored by the Conservatives. They also are strongly anti-crime.
Their impact? Well, their large voting bloc, if motivated to act, can definitely put a dent in the power of the Socialists and PFP, and can moderate the proposals of the Left. It is too early to tell what their impact will be, but there is no mistake in believing they will leave their mark on Cyberia.
