Cyberia Votes!!!
Cyberia's first real general election in history Cyberia is going to the polls - in droves. Our largest voting population has created the largest pool of active voters, consequently making tight races for Speaker, President, and Vice President expected. The Conservatives won their plurality, and 11 seats in the Chamber. They also swept many governorships. The Socialists were able to get 1/5 of the vote and more seats than they had even hoped. The PFP/CD coalition didn't do as well as they had wished, but still are going to contribute significantly to Cyberia. The Liberals swept the Lasterian elections (both governor and senator), as well as picked up 3 at-large seats. The Libertarians shrunk their size in the Chamber, but picked up the Belarian governorship. Meanwhile, the Liberty, Conservative Fascist, and New Soviet Communists took seats. In this atmosphere of heavy competition, several incumbents found themselves packing up. Joel Schapp, the independent three-term Belarian governor, was ousted by Libertarian chairman Cameron DeJong. Conan Saunders, vice chair of the Conservative Party, lost his Deputy seat to a Liberal. Jack Santucci, a maverick in Cyberian politics, finally lost his Mattimeo seat by a 16 point margin, and was given a wildcard seat. The President is undergoing a tough re-election fight, but having two right-wing candidates opposing him has pushed him into the lead in every major poll. Meanwhile, the Vice Presidency is up for grabs, and the polls indicate it will be close. The President has praised the new found competitiveness, and looks forward to the day when several parties of the same ideology aren't competiting against each other, but against parties of the oppositie ideology. Cyberia Today will post presidential election results and the like when they come available. |
