As the title of this article suggests, the reasons behind the revolution were not based in some anger at the government, but in fact was sparked because there was nothing better to do. Mr. Key, the Socialist floor leader, even admitted that "I got bored" and staged the revolution, on the Socialist forum. The Socialist Revolution claimed that the government was a tyranny, although they were at the heart of it and were increasingly more influential in it - they had a Socialist plurality in the Chamber, a Socialist Speaker, and a VP candidate leading in the polls.
What gave the Socialists there start was Travis Dandy. He left Cyberia, and as a non-citizen began posting claims that there was some anti-government sentiment in Windsor. Then, the ever so resourceful Malan Post issued reports that it had spread to southern Mala, a clear violation of the Simulation Control Act. They eventually decided to secede from Cyberia, illegally, and proclaim that 90% of Mala and 100% of Windsor supported them, blatantly untrue as it was.
So basically, the Socialists of James Madison University chose to give up everything they had gained in the last nine months and staged a revolution so they could have a blatantly unDemocratic government. Why? It's quite simple: they "got bored with Cyberia." They disliked that nothing revolutionary or divisive was happening, and in the interests of shaking things up, opted to destroy the movement within Cyberia towards socialism.
In the next article, we will consider the impact of the "Revolution."
Well, the census shows the clearest impact the Revolution had. Once the largest party in Cyberia, its numbers are cut nearly in half, and is tied with the PFP as the third largest party. As you can see in our segment on the Governor's race in Menet, the Socialists have lost ground on the gubernatorial leave. Also, if you look at the Chamber, they have fallen from 8 deputies to 2.
This has literally crippled the Socialist's base of supporters and has weakened their political position. Some are worried that the Chamber may not even see any Socialists come October, particularly because the CWP isn't here to prop up their popularity.
There's no doubt they will recover, but it may take another six or nine months before the Socialists can return to the position of strength they were in just a month ago. In the mean time, the Liberal and Conservative parties will fight in the middle road for control of Cyberia.
They staged a revolution for this?
Wow. Mike Rosario won the Menetian governorship in February by default, and ranted about how popular his government was and that the Communist Workers Party was the most active party in the province. If he lived in Cyberia today, he would be very quiet about the recent elections there. Dheeraj Jagadev, an Independent and a former member of Rosario's CWP, found himself with one of the most humiliating defeats since Quentyn Daniels lost by a 64% margin against President Kerns in October of last year. He lost, 88% to 12%, to Acting Minister of Defense Tim Dunkin, a member of the Conservative Party and a former governor of Wasula (in Cyberland).
This stinging revolt against the party in power has shattered any credibility the far-left has in the province, and diminishes Dheeraj Jagadev's chances for success with his new Communist Party. More importantly, however, it sends a message to the rest of Cyberia about the upcoming Septemeber and October elections: the Right is back!

By seizing control of Menet's governorship, the Conservative party is setting the stage for a comeback in the next elections. If this momentum keeps up, the Conservatives may even take the Vice-Presidency, weakening the PFP's position further then it already has. Basically, though, this gives the Conservatives their first chance since the December 1997 elections to make a sincere impact on public policy and to turn this nation around.
Be fore warned: the Conservatives are coming! The Conservatives are coming!
Citing personal reasons, and the desire to tone down their involvement to allow fresh blood in the Cyberian government, two prominent leaders in the Progressive-Futurist party have chosen to retire. Former Speaker Hickey has cited the problems it caused in his personal life, and has asked for a reduced role in Cyberia. Some speculate he is laying the ground work for a Presidential or gubernatorial bid later in the year, while others say that it was time for him to rebuild his positives. Speaker Pro Tempore Terry Clare has also announced her retirement, citing a feeling of being older than everyone else and the fact that she wants to reduce her workload. Some wish her to take the President's offer as either the head of the Finance Commission or as Minister of the Treasury during the President's second term.
The impact? Well, that leaves the PFP short two Deputies next term, and continued to erode the intellectual base of the Left within the Chamber. It adds to the possibility that the Conservatives will assume control of the Chamber during the Septmember elections.
The President was on vacation for three weeks in California, brushing up on some sun, as well as the legislative process in the California State Legislature. He claims he has brought back some ideas, but won't disclose them, for they aren't a high priority during this session of the Chamber. Expect it to be a big part of his initial legislative program during his second Administration, though.
Sementia, due to the lack of time on the part of its founder (Ken Thacker), has shut down. It may be brought back up, but insiders say it is not likely until at least next year. Meanwhile, Cyberland seems to be going through a rebirth with former MoD Chris Loutradis becoming its first new citizen in over two months. Cyberland will also be redesigning its website. Terra Novum is a new nation created by Tim Dunkin as an attempt to take up where Sementia left off, although some are skeptical about joining. President Kerns has mentioned he won't be a dual citizen unless TN is significantly different from Cyberia, such as having a parliamentary system.
Also, the every-so-radical and anti-Cyberian Mike Rosario has taken up the notion that a democracy is at its best when left as the most regulated part of the government. He has also taken it upon himself to create a communist, one-party dictatorship in East Cyberia. What's worse is he tries to deny our existence, except that he has created a country with a name that implies another Cyberia. Also, he has decided to twist and distort history, by claiming Cyberia as fascist and that he and many others managed to escape jail to create East Cyberia. He and others have even considered merging with "Mala" despite knowing that "Mala" doesn't exist as a separate country and any attempt to claim it will spark a war with Cyberia.
