Online Dom/mes and subs are all fake. And if there are "real" Dom/mes and subs, why are they online in the first place?

These are two that really get to me. Of course this is just my personal opinion but it is all I have to offer, as this is a highly controversial subject and the topic of quite a few conversations and articles that I have seen and heard on the web. I do believe that there are real Dom/mes and subs on the web. And I believe that there are a multitude of reasons for this. One reason in particular is acceptance. Interest or participation in the BDSM world is not a widely accepted thing in our society. And for many the only way to be with others that accept them and share their interest is on-line. Another is the anonymity of on-line. Others do not know who they really are and so they are able to be themselves without worrying that it will jeopardize their career, family life etc. Especially for people who are not fully involved in the lifestyle and are just starting to explore.

Most of the rooms are filled with people just trying to get off quickly and have no idea what BDSM really is.

This is one that is really hard to dispute because I myself have seen examples of this in chat rooms. I have seen people pretend to know a lot and really don’t. And I have seen people get hurt because of this. But more often I see people who are open and honest in their desire to learn about BDSM and those who are truly knowledgeable about it.

Online chat is fine but there is no way that you could have a real relationship with someone without meeting them.

I really disagree with this because for most in c/t or r/t it is the mental aspect that matters the most. And that is what you use when you are on-line, your mind. There is no reason why anyone can not have a real relationship without meeting and have real feelings and emotions involved. For some, they don’t wish to have r/t involved. Things that they do, they may not want to really do or be capable of, but they still feel the same.
