Sean Kinney was born on May 27 in 1966. His drumming career began when he, at the age of three had to be helped onto the drum throne to play country and old standards with his grandfather. Two years later Sean got his own kit. "I was in my grampa's band, 'the Cross Cats' when I was nine years old. Fabulous band. We played all sorts of shit: standards, show tunes, swing. We would travel all over the country playing weddings and square dances. He had all kinds of musicians coming through the band: accordion players, fiddlers, old sax guys from the big band era. My grandad played a washtub bass with a string and a broom handle on it. He would just jam on that thing! That was my first experience travelling on the road. We'd go up to Canada, Oregon, all over." remembers Sean. He is maybe best known for his sharp sense of humour that makes him of the most difficult persons imaginable to interview. His answers often seem to be a little off and he seems to love making fun out of the interviewer. He is also famous for being one of the very few musicians (together with Michael Jackson) to own a monkey. When he is not making fun of stupid interviewers Sean plays DW drums and hardware, Vater sticks, Remo heads and Sabian AA, AAX, HH and El Sabor series cymbals. Unforgetable quotes regarding... ...Soundgarden: "Hate those guys. We hate each other. Sometimes we'll get in our big Cadillacs and do drive-bys on each other's houses. We're like rival gangs." ...the music: "We've mastered the art of making pretty music that makes you want to die" ...personality: "There's nothing worse than talking about yourself to find out that you're not that interesting." ...being a rockstar: "The difference for me is I just don't sleep on friends' couches anymore." ...the music, again: "If we could get away with just putting out the same songs, just remixing them and putting out dance versions, we would."
