Bobcat -- Oreamnos americanus


  • Average Weight: up to 30 lbs.

  • Peak Weight: 30 lbs.

  • Characterist: Bobcat coat is light brown with varied spotting and the tail has distinguishable black horizontal stripes.

  • Home Range: 1/2 to 20 square miles

  • Food: Bobcat are carnivorous, rabbits,hares, mice, squirrels, and occasionally deer.

  • Distribution: Bobcats are the most common wild cat in North America, located almost everywher except southern Canada, midwest United States and northern Mexico.

  • Mating:January to February.

  • Gestation:50 to 60 days.

  • Young born:Primarily March to May.

  • Number of young:2 to 3.

  • Number of litters:1.

  • Young independent:Weaned at 8 weeks; independent at 4 to 5 months.
