Kent Golden: Lead guitar and backing vocals.

Hello,

This is Kent Golden and I play lead guitar for Logan 3. I'll try to sum up some of the more interesting aspects of myself here and let you know a little about what I do.

I guess I'll start at the beginning. Ever since I was young, I've loved music. My parents exposed my brother and I to some great works by Creedence, Bach, The Doors, The Moody Blues etc., but my interests didn't stop there. In my early teenage years, I listened to mainly hard rock and heavy metal (Megadeth, Pantera, Biohazard etc.), but later on grew very fond of Mike Oldfield (creator of Tubular Bells), Dave Matthews, and other more melodic music. I currently listen to just about anything, and try to bring the emotions of the various styles I enjoy into my own music.

I took violin lessons for about 8 years or so, but unfortunately gave it up when my musical interests went heavy. My guitar interest started when a friend of mine left his electric guitar at my house when I was in Middle School. Since it was the instrument of choice for all of the bands I liked, I started to fool around with it. Alas, the violin was set aside for a few years, but lately I must say my interest in it has increased once again.

I gradually taught myself more and more of guitar, and developed a pretty good ear for picking out notes in a song. It may sound strange, but in general I prefer not playing other people's music too much. The reason for this is that I want my style to be purely mine. Most guitarists I know have a favorite artist who they play all of the time. After a while, when composing their own music, it always starts to sound like that particular band they always play. I don't want people to listen to my solos and say, "Sounds a lot like Dave Matthews", or "Your style is just like So and so". Don't get me wrong, this is perfect for most guitarists, especially when they combine many styles together, but it's just not for me.

I have always tried to make my guitar work simple, so as to let Leigh's vocals take center stage. My solos are intentionally short and relatively simple, which is a good thing! Their job is to highlight the vocals and bring more emotion to the music, not to overpower or show that I learned my scales. Maybe someday our direction will call for wailing guitar solos, but for now I think I'll keep those for the jam sessions. Until then, you can count on direct and meaningful melodies from me.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy our work. A lot of emotion, time, and effort goes into each of our songs, and they each mean more to us than just the notes. My ultimate goal as a member of Logan 3 is to make them mean something to you as well. I hope I have succeeded. Feel free to mail me and let me know how I'm doing fademusic@hotmail.com.
