Leigh Golden: Lead vocals and acoustic guitar.

Hi...

I'm Leigh Golden. Singer, guitarist, and principle songwriter for Logan 3. Since you're reading this, you must be looking at my picture. I personally think I look like death warmed over in it, but please feel free to make me feel better by telling me that it's not true.

Either way, my brother Kent has been bugging me for quite some time now to write up a bio for this Logan 3 website. So, in the wee hours of the morning on March 27, 1998, I sat up with all seriousness and tried to compose some elaborate (yet compelling) synopsis of who I am and what I like to do. As you can guess, I couldn’t do it. Instead, let me explain to you the enormous differences between the agrarian lifestyle of... lets say... the ancient Minoans with the pastoral habits of the !Kung tribe (pronounced with that funky fresh guttural clicking sound that I used to annoy my mother with on the trips our family took to Vermont and New Hampshire)... or not.

Well, I guess my true goal in this little thing is to make my biography as interesting as possible, especially considering that there may be some of you reading this who have no clue as to who we are or what our music sounds like. The best remedy for that, and might I add a pretty darn fun one, is to come to the New Haven, Connecticut area. Or, as a good alternative, order a CD for your listening pleasure. I can only say that both your CD player and dog will give you kudos for that last move. (You see, it’s been scientifically proven in Helsinki, Finland that our canine buddies hold a great affinity for progressive-alternative music. Especially, new studies show, the type that comes out of Hamden, Connecticut). So once you’ve gotten your Logan 3 CD in the mail, feel free to crank it up with no worries. Your dog will thank you for it.

Okay... here’s the biography that I’ve been eluding to for the last two paragraphs. I, Leigh Golden, being of sound mind, seriously play guitar and enjoy it. I started with lessons when I was seven years old after seeing bands like Tommy Tutone and After the Fire play on MTV all the time. However, much to my dismay, guitar lessons were nothing like I thought they would be. I, in my nerdy elementary school self, wanted to be the weird neon guy with the headband playing on that "Money For Nothing" Dire Strait’s video. Or better yet, that really cool Van Halen guy strutting across the table with a Fender in "Hot For Teacher". Instead, I was playing Red River Valley and Aura Lee (*classic Mel Bay greats!!!).

You see, the way I understood guitar lessons was that after they taught me the scales and the C-chord, the next day we’d start with the head-banging and proper soloing techniques. Little did I know that MTV guitar and "the half hour lesson" guitar were not the same animal at all. Same guitar, same concept, but completely different Zip Code! So, I quit.

It took me a long time to finally figure out that what I was learning was in fact the basics that would let me enter the great world of Rock and Roll. I had to swallow some pride on that realization, but I’m glad I finally made it.

So, ten years later, I was practicing real hard on my own and wishing that I had continued when I was younger. But, I learned my lesson, and after a while I was writing songs and joining bands. So, I guess my story has a happy ending.

Right now, I’m 22 years old and attending Southern Connecticut State University for a graduate degree in History. For my undergraduate degree, I went to Franklin Pierce College in New Hampshire and majored in Anthropology. There I met a lot of cool people (Jer, Justin, Matt, Becky, Rob Hernendez and Dr. Hecker... you get your props here). I also learned a lot about what I want to do with my life. Right now, I’m really happy to tell you it is music.

To date, I’ve written over 60 songs, and I hope to write a lot more. Also, one of the main goals that I have for my music is to not only give a real message with what I sing about, but also constantly grow as both a composer and guitarist.

So there you go. That wasn’t too painful. But, just to round things out, here is a list of artists, albums, and events in music that have really made me want to play all the more. Enjoy, and let me know if you agree!
